Vanessa Van Deusen - Vanessa Van D
(From Vanessa Van D single; 2026)

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Stella Lefty's billionaire dad should dip into his pockets to make Vanessa Van D a hit. Damn, this shit is catchier than herpes on a Weatherspoons pint glass. Max Martin & his bork songwriting sweatshop couldn't whip up some pop choonage this good in a month of blue mondays. Hat tip to Johnny The Boxxx.

Young Dro - They Don't Really Know Bout Dro
(From Best Thang Smokin' album; 2006/YouTube; 2026)

A 20th anniversary video for one of the most anthemic album cut on Young Dro's first LP innit. I'm a fan of rappers shootin' belated music videos for a variety of reasons, the main one being that they give new leases of life to old favourites which have long since fallen out of your regular rotation. If bloggin' is a motorcycle, you in my sidecar with these dozen 2006 anthemic album cuts which also deserve 20th anniversary videos.

Other notables: parlour game lists by me in the form of my favourite Rap songs beginning with each letter of the alphabet and my favourite Rap songs beginning with numbers. Also Party Sparty on his 10 favourite films featuring Brits abroad.

Numbers On The Board

What's today's mathematics, God... literally. Me and the boiz have already tackled favourite Rap songs beginning with the letters of the alphabet, so how's about we talk favourite Rap songs which begin with numbers? It's rules, guidelines and codes we obey: the song must begin with a number and if you mention a Drake song I will track you down and set Jack Russell terriers on your testicles. Off the top like Adee Phelan, here's 21 favourites. If you havin' blog problems I feel bad for you, son. I got 99 problems, but a list ain't 1.

I saw Instagram's alphabet musical challenge and a light bulb appeared above my dome. Man, I said to myself "once again it's on!" Thus, here's ur boi's favourite Rap songs for every letter of the alphabet. It's more of headache if you do it one song per artist, so of course I did it thatta way. Bloggin' ain't nothin' but a thing to me, because I'm a double O.G P-O-S-T. Do you know your alphabets, Martaveli? B-L-O-G.

21 Years Later

Z-Ro - Mo City Don (Freestyle) (video)
(From Let The Truth Be Told album; 2005/YouTube; 2026)

It's never too late for a proper video to one of the greatest songs in Texas Rap history. A song with no actual chorus which is #actually one long chorus innit. Just press stop or rewind at the 4:30 mark because no discerning Rap connoisseur needs to be reminded of what comes next. True story: when I first copped the Let The Truth Be Told I was so stuck on this song I didn't even listen to the rest of the album until days later. And so here's a generic list post of 30 first songs on albums which were so good they had me in a headlock for days.

Henry Mancini - The Pink Panther Theme (1963)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Foxy Lady (1967)
Isaac Hayes - Walk On By (1968)
Curtis Mayfield - (Don't worry) If There's A Hell Below.. (1970)

Michael Jackson - Don't Stop Til You Get Enough (1979)
Motörhead - Ace Of Spades (1980)
Prince - Let's Go Crazy (1984)
Run-D.M.C - Peter Piper (1986)
Beastie Boys - Rhymin' & Stealin (1986)
Eric B. & Rakim - Follow The Leader (1988)

You can play this game with me if you want, but there's one rule: all first songs on albums which are preceeded by a skit or an intro are officially excluded.

We're 6 months deep into 2026, so here's 26 songs which have had my dancing shoes in a figure-four leglock. It's my anniversary!

Know Y? It was 40 years ago this year that I first properly heard Rap music in 1985 via Big Rap Singles™ like Run-D.M.C's King Of Rock, Doug E. Fresh & MC Ricky D's The Show and Whistle's (Nothing Serious) Just Buggin'. All 3 songs were U.K top 40 chart hits which made their way into the orbit of lil' old me at the tender age of 9 and 10 years old. No lie, there were zero Big Rap Singles™ of that quality this year, and 2025 might be the worst year for Big Rap Singles™ in the genre's history. Imagine being a 9 or 10 year old kid in 2025 and your first exposure to Rap music is some Godawful recent Big Rap Singles™ by Drake, Travis Scott and Gunna. My condolences to the poor lil' bastard.

Obviously there were great Rap singles in 2025, it's just that they didn't blossom into Big Rap Singles™ because the industry is useless, the DJs are clueless and the audience are hopeless... especially in the U.K nowadays lol. I'm not talkin' about Fugazi's catalogue when I say this is a margin walker era for Rap connoisseurs. It beez that way sometimes, papi. The only time I heard new American Rap songs I like played outside in 2025 was when I put a handful of choonz on the pub playlist.

I'm huntin', we out chea on a choon chase, and everything on my blog will be my database. So, here's a list of my favourite 2025 Rap songs, the vast majority of which are singles. No hierarchy of preference because rating and ranking songs is for the birds. There's a handful of 2024 songs here which I'm considering 2025 songs for a variety of respective reasons. I talk sense condensed into the form of a post, full of no dudz from my dome to the top my toes.

"I can't afford a rainy day fund because day after day the rainy days come-es"

Jordy ft. Ceebo - Rainy Day
(From Rainy Day single; 2025)

Where better to make a rap song about rainy days than the drizzly island of Britain? Fresh for slate-grey skies, here's the winter counterpart to Summertime by SL, Knucks & Sainte. In fact, this song is a prime example of Knucks-core: sad lad Road-Rap which is palatable to Guardian readers. Shout out to Barney Ronay, we in this bitch!

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Young Bleed died. Rapper deaths hit the hardest when it's an old favourite who was still making good music. And that's I haven't been this gutted about a rapper dying since The Jacka. I'm bloggin' with the violin, not hoppin' up for the downstroke while lil' papi plays the fiddle. R.I.P.
