The P stands for Penance?

P-Lo - Run It Back
(From Run It Back single; 2026)

Ring the alarm, P-Lo back in my good books after helping That Canadian Nonce™ besmirch a Mac Dre classic. Not a Slap-Magnifico, more a Slap-Atonemento.

Le Geek

Lelo - Get Geeked
(From Mastiff: Pink Tiles album; 2026)

Fellow #MicTerrorHive member Jmil reckons Ezale should beatjack and remake this song. I concur, but until then the original will do just fine as a Detroit Bass exocet missile designed to blow my limbs into a frenzy. Your shit is underground, this shit is underwater™. The title says Geeked, but this song is more Rollin' than Scotty. This beat is a good example of how a Rap song can snatch a couple of magic moments from an otherwise dire 80s Dutch pop song and mold them into a bangeur. True story: I've only just realised that Lelo and Gelo are two different rappers.

Real Talk

"Sometimes negative is good like a aids test
The answer is negative if it pays less
I want positive answers, you better say YES!
Couldn't tell when I was hurtin' 'cause I stay fresh"

Mic Terror - Lyrical Shit
(From The Terror Files album; 2026)

I'm starting a new The Blog Era podcast where it's me shouting "MIC TERROR HAS MORE JAMS AND MORE LONGEVITY THAN ANY OF THOSE TRENDY RAPPERS PEOPLE WERE SWEATIN'!" as I play Mic T songs from 2007 to the present day. Here's another favourite cut from his new album where Problematic Papi Mic expresses opinionz which would make Pimp C proud. Like Mic said on his latest single, mix the ignorance with elegance.

I been survivin' on my own like The Revenant

"In this world you either buyin' or you sellin' it
I'm in my bag like yo' grandmama's peppermints"

Mic Terror - A Year Ago
(From The Terror Files album; 2026)

#MicTerrorHive assemble. Problematic Papi dropped a new album today and this is the second single after Nothin' Can Stop. R. Kelly at a high school game ain't as hard as this.

Couple of old blokes, we're the U.K G.O.A.Ts

Pete & Bas - Cross Country
(From Cross Country single; 2026)

By the manor, for the manor, it's a summer bangeur by the pensioner London Posse. This song is like Je M'appelle for 2026. I enjoy Pete & Bas' music in the same way I enjoy the movie The Business: it should be with a degree of shame, but it's executed so flawlessly that I can't help but love it wholeheartedly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Generic list post: 2026 jams so far

We're 6 months deep into 2026, so here's 26 songs which have had my dancing shoes in a figure-four leglock. Some are from 2025, but that's okay because calender years aren't sacrosanct and you're supposed to have your wicked way with them (no Das Racist.) Football, bloody hell! Music, also bloody hell!

Newcleus - Disco Kryptonite
Trunk Boiz & Seiji Oda - Go Dumb!
Duke Deuce - Feathers Up
The IT -
Mr. Gone (Fingers Edit)
Mr. Fingers - Replicate
Ezale - Make Her Gig
Trim - BOAT
T.I. - Let Em Know
OnlyHeaven - No Lie
Tove Lo - I'm Your Girl Right?
Bruus & Mic Terror - Nothin' Can Stop
Bri3 - Whatever
The Assembly - Mob Throb
Homeboy Sandman & Luke Warmth - Heet
Mexikodro - Mail

A Bork of Human Language

Tove Lo - I'm Your Girl Right?
(From I'm Your Girl Right? single; 2026)

Finally a 2026 Pop single which tickles my fancy, courtesy of old Martorialist favourite Tove Lo. Bury me with the Lo on because I've been partial to Tove's music since Habits (Stay High), with Disco Tits being her choon ne plus ultra. In fact, she's only of the only modern pop singers who is believable as a dirtbag because she has a certain sleaziness which is unique to Bork birds from northern Europe. A couple of unexpected but welcome little touches on this song: either by accident or by design, she sounds like she's singing in an Essex accent during the pre-chorus and chorus; and that Rave piano on the pre-chorus is so effective it could have rang bells at Quadrant Park in 1991. This shit would be my favourite non-Rap song of 2026 thus far if it weren't for Mr Gone (Fingers Edit) by The IT.

God bless YouTube

Husalah - On The Streets Pt 2
(From unreleased; 200?/Stash World YouTube channel; 2026)

Via the Stash World YouTube channel AKA the internet's number one source for rare and unreleased Mob Figaz music, here's a hitherto-unheard sequel to one of Husalah's best unreleased songs On The Streets. Same beat as the original, but entirely different lyrics. No idea when it was recorded but it doesn't matter because Sob Figaz-core will never get old to mavens of melancholy mob-music.

No Sleep Till After Midnight

Never seen before by me: the Beastie Boys performing No Sleep Till Brooklyn and (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) live on MTV's 1987 new year's eve Rock 'N' Roll Ball show. This is #problematic teenage brat era Beasties in their full glory, and the only downside to the clip is that they weren't given more airtime to perform Rhymin' & Stealin', Posse In Effect, Brass Monkey and Slow and Low too. On one hand, I wish I'd been old enough to have seen Run-D.M.C, LL Cool J and the Beasties on their U.K tour in 1986. On the other hand, if I was old enough to see that tour in 1986 then I wouldn't have been watching Children's BBC in 1990 when Round The Twist first hit U.K TV screens.

Sod that. Conclusion: Round The Twist - 1, Rush Associated Artists - 0.

Walk like a Jansport

Lord Sko & Statik Selektah - Wish Upon A Star
(From Elevator Music album; 2026)

Lolz. Third song I've liked by this lad after Pimp Socks and Girbaud Talk with Grand Puba. One thing New York backpack-rap has always been good at is making wistful piano choonz you can pound the pavements to at dusk, and Statik Selektah conjured up the sundown vybz with this one. We outside while you in the house like LL listenin' to tuneless dirges by Earl Sweatshirt's m8s.

Been very partial to the odd Statik Selektah production ever since Animal by AZ. That JOMO song by Jim Jones from last year was annoyingly good.

Don't Overthink About It

Trunk Boiz & Seiji Oda - Go Dumb
(From Right Back In EP; 2026)

My personal song of the summer now has a video on some Planet Of Giants type shit. If I ruled the world Go Dumb would be the Steal My Sunshine of 2026. A cool breeze on the boombox of AM radio bubblegum Hyphy which puts a Zen spin on the concept of Going Dumb. This song is THE shit because it's a literal Floater.

Demolition Men

Biggie Smalls - Biggie Got The Hype Shit
(From demo; 1991)

Best pre-fame Biggie demo track ever IMHO. Biggie Got The Hype Shit was one of the first songs B.I.G ever recorded in 1991 with Jesse West on the beat and DJ 50 Grand on the scratches. This shit is Biggie's one real Golden-Era song and sounds like it coulda/shoulda dropped on Select Records with Biggie as the Mr. Hyde to Chubb Rock's Dr. Jekyll. For doz who still think that Biggie stole his Notorious B.I.G moniker from Notorious B1 in 1993, plz note that he introduces himself as "the notorious Biggie Smalls in full effect" on this demo 2 years earlier.

Strictly Dope - Never Be Beat
(From Beginnings: The Lost Tapes 1988–1991 album; 2007)

Rewind for the best pre-fame 2Pac demo track ever IMHO. Never Be Beat comes from the era when him & Ray Luv were recording together as Strictly Dope. This song was probably recorded around 1990 but if it had ended up on 2Pacalypse Now then it woulda been tied for best song on there alongside Tha Lunatic. Even annoying Boom-Bap purist blokes like Wicked22 and A.C The Program Director can't front on this song.

In The Trunk

Trunk Boiz & Seiji Oda ft. Fijiana - Sky Scraper
(From Right Back In EP; 2026)

Trunk Boiz & Seiji Oda - Never!
(From Right Back In EP; 2026)

The Boiz are back in town: after No Fillins2, I Call Tell and Go Dumb!, Seiji Oda & the Trunk Boiz have recorded an EP together. Seiji mixed his tai chi Hyphy with the Trunk Boiz' traditional dumbness to create an alternate universe Baytrix. The Fijiana lass on Sky Scraper even sounds like Kreayshawn.

Generic list post: May 2026

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when David Raya ensured he won't win this season's Ballon d'OR. Oh well, it's a tinpot title anyway. How can it possibly be a prestigious award when Michael f**King Owen won it once?

Run-D.M.C - Jam-Master Jammin' (Rick Rubin remix) (1985)
Rev Run I Used To Think I Was Run (2005)
Sir Michael Rocks - Talkin' Legit (2025)
Trim - BOAT (Audio Exhbit performance) (2026)
Seiji Oda & Trunk Boiz - Go Dumb! (2026)
The Assembly - Mob Throb (2026)
Bruus ft. Mic Terror & Gzus Piece - All I Do (2026)
Bri3 - Whatever (2026)
70th Street Carlos - Get Out The Way (2026)
Duke Deuce - Feathers Up (2026)
Mexikodro - Mail (2026)
Mýa ft. Too $hort - Just A Little Bit (2026)
Donae'O - Big Up The Gooners Around The World (2026)

Late pass!

Run-D.M.C - Jam-Master Jammin' (Rick Rubin remix)
(From American Bandstand TV show; 1985)

Sum shit I was utterly oblivious to until I read JayQuan's book about Run-D.M.C's Raising Hell album: there's a Rick Rubin remix of Jam-Master Jammin' which knocks the original version outta the box. This was the second time Run-D.M.C worked with Rubin after Can You Rock It Like This and they even performed the remix on American Bandstand in 1985. The beat is kinda like a prototype for No Sleep Till Brooklyn in the same way that the beat on She's On It is kinda like a prototype for (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party). When I say prototype it's not a dis, boiiiii, because all 4 songs are hall of fame choonz in the pantheon of 1980s Rock Guitar-Rap IMHO. Another thing I was oblivious to until I read JayQuan's book was how insanely jealous Run was of LL Cool J. This was one of the factors why Run-D.M.C dumped Larry Smith as their main producer and switched to Rick Rubin for Raising Hell.

Rev Run - I Used To Think I Was Run
(From Distortion album; 2005)

Bonus beats: a notable entry in the canon of Shinola Songs On Shitty Albums is the opening track on Rev Run's solo LP. This is a proto-Top Shelf 8/8/'88 bangeur which would have sounded right at home as a token old skool choon on one of those mid 2000s Kay Slay compilations. In a perfect world there woulda been a remix featuring M.O.P where Danze & Fame made it clear that they were the true heirs to Run-D.M.C.

Legit by name, Legit by nature

Sir Michael Rocks - Talkin' Legit
(From the internet; 2025/Rock, Paper, Scissors: Choices album; 2026)

Ur boi has been on an early Cool Kids binge recently, so it's the perfect time to check out Sir Michael Rocks' recent solo dolo shit. Was expecting 500k would be the jam 4 me since it's a DJ Fresh production. Joke's on me like Kid Capri because Talkin' Legit is my #actual choon of choice. The kid Rocks is taking the Michael on this one and it gives me the po pimpish adrenaline rush of some modern day Legit Ballaz type shit.

Zoomers will not besmirch the word Gooners

Donae'O - Big Up The Gooners Around The World
(From Big Up The Gooners Around The World single; 2026)

We did it, Brooklyn, we did it!! After 22 long, lean years, Arsenal have only gone and blown the bloody doors off. Sod a rollercoaster, it's been a full Alton Towers of emotions this season. So many times it looked like a second place Groundhog Day for the Gooners again, but they've somehow won the league with one game to spare. The 1989 title decider at Anfield was one of the first Arsenal games my grandad took me to, so I'm down 4 whateva like M.O.P & O.C, but Man Citeh have an annoying habit of pulling rabbits out of hats on the last game of the season. This time, however, the points stacked up, Pep & Erling couldn't catch up, all the salt that haters are throwin' Arsenal need some ketchup. KEEP THROWIN' SALT ON "SET PIECE F.C"! THATZ SEASONING TO A STEAK! Ain't naan another premiership team this season scored a better goal than Max Dowman against Everton. Just like Arne Slot did last season, Mikel Arteta laid the murder game down on Pep Guardiola. What's Peppin', Kermie? That motherf**ker's gone and he's not comin' back, B.

Don't fancy our chances much against PSG in the Champion's League final tho tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Micgic Number

"These hoes look me in my eyes and call me beautiful
I say you right, baby, but bitch you still delusional
Moral is, two things can be right at the same time
Bitch-ass n***as done wrote some of the most insane lines"

Bruus ft. Mic Terror & Gzus Piece - All I Do
(From All I Do single; 2026)

Nothin' Can Stop had me open for another Bruus & Mic Terror track. Throw Gzus Piece into the mix and I'm a happy camper like Bruce Springsteen's sister in Sleepaway Camp II. That clickity-clackity beat on this one has got real #MicTerrorHive members firing up Chief Sampson right after.

My Mind Spray 22

MF DOOM made two of my favourite Rap albums of all time with Operation Doomsday and Black Bastards. But I view 60% of his recorded output in the same way that I view Lionel Messi's post-Barcelona career: best to pretend that it didn't happen as to not tarnish the legacy. Obviously the 2 Czarface albums DOOM recorded in his final years are the musical equivalent of Messi scoring free kicks and tap ins against farmers in the MLS.

I was unfortunate enough to hear some of the 2 Hard 4 The F**kin' Radio homage by That Canadian Nonce™. How is it even possible to make interpolating Mac Dre lyrics over a P-Lo beat sound like a sanitary towel commercial? That guy has the worst voice in the history of recorded music, and it boggles my mind that anyone finds his whiney music tolerable let alone pleasurable.

I'm not saying I wish that Russia would launch a drone strike on Toronto. I'm just saying that any city which inflicted That Canadian Nonce™ and Mindbender Futurama on the world deserves some sort of punishment.

Run-D.M.C's Raising Hell was the first Rap album I bought, and JayQuan is my favourite old skool Rap history-bod, so of course his recent book about the album is a Good Combination™. JayQuan is a convivial author who experienced the era and the album's impact from front, back & side to side, and he's big on details without being an annoying nutjob windbag like Dart Adams. Anecdotes and actual factz are provided by everyone involved in the making of the album, and it doesn't hurt that the book is fulla pictures of Run-D.M.C lookin' cooler than Polish feet.

Duke Deuce - Feathers Up
(From Feathers Up single; 2026)

70th Street Carlos' new single is so moreish, I need another song with similar berserker energy like now and shit, y'know, that shit now, I'm talkin' now. Alas, I don't have Cooky Puss' number, so I gave Duke Deuce a call and got him to pop back up with a real Memphis slobberknocker of a song. Cot-damn, he could beat Andre The Giant with this track. Giant Gonzalez too.

BOATs and hoes

Trim - BOAT
(From BOAT single; 2025)

People have been mocking that Trim bird's live performance at the Rolling Loud festival. Which is ironic to me because thee definitive version of her break out song BOAT isn't the studio version or the remixes with YKNiece & BunnaB or Pooh Shiesty, it's this performance of it on the Audio Exhbit YouTube channel. She nails the timing and delivery, and her voice sounds better all natural without any studio trickery. You can't tell me nuffink to the contrary.

Trim - BOAT (live performance)
(From Audio Exhbit YouTube channel; 2026)

Some of my most-listened to Rap songs in 2026 are songs from 2025: Make Her Gig by Ezale, Disco Kryptonite by Newcleus, That's A Playa by Young Bari & BossLife Big Spence, No Lie by OnlyHeaven, and BOAT right here. Like Styles P nearly said, I don't care about the release date and whenever it dropped, I don't care about anything except the song being in my rotation because it's hot.

Berserker Bounce back!

70th Street Carlos - Get Out The Way
(From Get Out The Way single; 2026)

Boosie FatAzz caught a second wind off the second line. Legitimately thought this was a 2016 to 2018 Carlos song when I first clocked it: the Webbiefro is back in full bloom and the beat sounds like it could be a Trel Itz A Hit production. 'Los is back in that water like LL Cool J's parrot.

You don't wanna lose me like new I.D

Cool Kids ft. Lil' Wayne - Gettin' It
(From the internet; 2008)

I'm stickin' to the script like java when I say that Gettin' It still sounds hotter than lava. A very necessary rearrangement of Jam-Master Jay after Nas stunk the original beat up with his nauseating sex rhymes when he jacked it for You Know My Style. Gettin' It is such a message in a bottle from the Blog Era™ innit? The Cool Kids did their thing for 2 16s before Lil' Wayne came through and gaffled the song with 3 verses. Gettin' It was a loosie which was never released to retail and has still never made it to DSPs, but the MP3 went platinum on Hulkshare.

My favourite Cool Kids memory: Will High being absolutely disgusted by Mikey Rocks' skinny jeans in the Black Mags video. Absolute fury from a bloke who hadn't even listened to music made by blk ppl since 1999. My other favourite Cool Kids nemory: Mikey Rocks blowing my mind and my laptop speakers at the SAME DAMN TIME when I first heard it on MySpace in 2007. It was, to paraphrase Jason Fox, new school Rap with an old school steelo.

Cool Kids - Mikey Rocks
(From the internet; 2007/The Bake Sale album; 2008)

Even more importantly than that, the Cool Kids MySpace page led me to discover future Martorialist favourite/Chicago's best kept secret Mic Terror via Cold As Hell and Juke Them Hoes. Shout out to Tom Anderson, the only tech-bloke social media entrepreneur who made the world a better place and then dipped with that Murdoch money.

My Mind Spray 21

Beastie Boys - Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun
(From Paul's Boutique album; 1989)

One of the greatest mini-moments in Rap music: that 2 thump drum breakdown at 1:49 in Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun. It lasts barely 2 seconds, but it hits like a cattle prod to my body and turns me into Busta in the Everything Remains Raw intro to the Woo-Hah video.

The Assembly - Mob Throb
(From The Assembly album; 2026)

The Assembly is a new Sic Wid It group comprising of E-40, Cousin Fik & Hitta Slim FKA Laroo T.H.H. DJ Fresh's mob musik synths on this song are so high-pitched they could be used as a dog whistle for missing pooches. High praise or wot?

Wednesday, 6 May 2026

Mýa Jammer

Mýa ft. Too $hort - Just A Little Bit
(From Just A Little Bit single; 2026)

This ain't Gina G, motherf**kers! $hort and Mýa go back like babies and pacifiers? Most unexpected collaboration of 2026 so far or wot? This song sounds like it could have dropped at any point in the last 30 years and that's why it's so good. Throwback R&Boogie which NorCal's electric-boogalooing fonky-grampa OG Mike Chaos can strut his stuff to. This shit is so Grown & Gorgeous™ that $hort even put a suit and tie on for the video.

Vince FM

Vincent Gallo - Drowning In Brown
(From Buffalo '66 soundtrack; 1998)

Drowning In Brown from Vincent Gallo's Buffalo '66 soundtrack is the best Check Your Head instrumental interlude which the Beastie Boys never recorded. Someone should interview Gallo and ask him about his favourite early 80s Rap songs from the Prince Vince era. What was he listening to on this boombox in 1982 when he was drowning in baby-blue? Definitely Spoonie Gee, but who else and which songs specifically?

Juiceboxxx really missed a trick by not rhyming over Drowning In Brown one time like 'Clef on the Fugees joint. Speaking of 'boxxx, Like A Maniac is up there with Lifestyles Of The Rich And Infamous by Ice-T and Touring by the Ramones in my personal canon of Songs About Life On The Road. On the air guitar-ometer, Like A Maniac scores a Bill & Ted "EXCELLENT!"

Juiceboxxx - Like A Maniac

Dance To My Misandry

Bri3 - Whatever
(From Whatever single; 2026)

The golden-era era of Hateful Hoe Rap singles continues with this song by Maryland's Bri3. Definitely wasn't expecting a cheeky Heavy D sample in a 2026 song. The overly critical hater's in the house! Give me more professionally A&R-ed Rap singles and less 74 second brainfart throwaway tracks.

Bonus beats: Seiji Oda brought the Trunk Boiz back again. A cool breeze on the boombox of AM radio bubblegum Hyphy. If I ruled the world this song would be the Steal My Sunshine of 2026.

Seiji Oda & Trunk Boiz - Go Dumb!
(From Go Dumb! twingle; 2026)

Great song from a forgotten Rap album

Me & My Cousin - My Day
(From International album; 1996)

As featured in ur boi's recent Martorialist classics not on DSPs playlist. Me & My Cousin were a Solano Country, California duo who began their career in 1992 as Kriss Kross' older brothers, but then found their final form in 1996 when they transformed into the Luniz' long-lost siamese twins after hooking up with Ruthless Records G-Funk royalty Rhythm D for their only album International. Smooth was the album's main single and, fair play, it's a cool song. But it ain't nowhere near as cool as My Day where Rhythm D G-Funkified Shaggy's Boombastic for the lads to get their Hot Sunny Day on. G-Funk and Mob Musik mixing like Amaretto and spicy Rum.

09 til Infinity (part 5)

"Yes I got a man, but Ima send my best bitch
Most important meal, he gon' eat her out for breakfast"

BunnaB - Best Bitch
(From Best Bitch single; 2026)

Chef's kiss opening lyric up top. Another jam from the Atlanta Swag-Rap reboot's Dame of Disrespect. Me, I'm gonna use this as a companion to Bestie by Pooh The WriteR.

Nas was a gun, Larry Heard is like buses

Mr. Fingers - Replicate
(From Leev Ur Mynd album; 2026)

First 2026 gave us new Larry Heard in the form of The IT. Now 2026 gives us more new Larry Heard in the form of Mr. Fingers. Replicate is the track I'm currently gravitating towards on the new Fingers LP because it sounds like the score for a sci-fi movie. Not just any old sci-fi movie tho - this shit sounds like it was precision designed to soundtrack Predator. Every time I press play on this track my third eye catches crazy visionz of Arnie in the jungle creepin' on ah come up as he's hunted by a vulva-faced alien.

What is up with that album title tho? Leev Ur Mynd is the House musik album title equivalent of Public Enemy's New Whirl Odor. Fair play to Public Enemy tho because I didn't think they'd ever come up with an even worse album title than Muse Sick-n-Hour Message.

Re-Up Gong: Everybody Eats, B!

Eatem's Greatest Pressure

4. Whoop Sum (2019)
5. Hit Da Drank Twice (ft. Lil' Larry) (2019)
6. Spent It All (2019)
7. Wats Wrong With Em (2020)
8. Go Get Yo F*ckin' Brotha (2021)
9. Cup Of Tea (2021)

12. Europe (2023)
13. Get Somebody Else To Do It (ft. Day Day Sustaaa) (2023)
14. Start It Off (2024)

Since Eatem is back after a year or so in prison, here's a re-up of my Eatem's Greatest Pressure playlist with a few other songs he dropped since I first put the playlist together in 2022. You don't rework, you don't Eat. For doz who've slept: Eatem looks like Percy Tragedy and makes fun rowdy southern anthems in the vein of Treal Lee & Prince Rick. He fits into the current Rap game as Baton Rouge's equivalent of Duke Deuce, but with different angles to his bangers like triangle isosceles. I hope he hasn't lost his touch and continues to make the sort of B.R Rap I love. Born alone, dine alone.

I've been on a bit of a playlist creation/curation run recently: Martorialist classics not on DSPs, Nine & Dex Quinary of Quality, Thizz Favourites, Mac Dre deep cuts, Best of Bavgate, Follow The Leader (Martorialist re-edit) and best early 80s Mr. Bongo pick-ups.

Percee Peeve

Nine & Dex - White Boy Wasted
(From White Boy Wasted single; 2026)

Welcome back to the the Road-Rap Eric & Ernie. On one hand, they've pissed me off again by calling the police "feds." On the other hand, they also call the police "bacon." Would Big Vern from VIZ ever call use the word "feds"? Of course he wouldn't, and neither should ANY self-respecting British man.

Bonus beats: Sod it, here's a Quinary of Quality™ for Nine & Dex. In chronological order, their 5 best songs thus far IMHO.

Top 5 Nine & Dex choonz
1. Pecan Pie (2024)
2. Morgan Freeman (2025)
3. Shetland Pony (2055)
4. Postman Pat (2025)
5. Power Ranger (2025)

Well, er... boom-batter, DSPs don't matter, sorry homeboy, my playlists is gettin' fatter. Here's a buncha Rap songs which I can't currently find on DSPs in my region. All are Martorialist classics you're probably familiar with already, but this blog is my ersatz radio show I use to inflict my taste on yous lot. I choose songs, flooze songs, bang songs, bruise songs, throw 'em in a playlist and then I excuse songs. I coulda/woulda gone deeper with the 1980s selections, but I wanted to put the playlist in chronological order and Positive K's Step Up Front had to be track number one because that's the song which inspired me to put the playlist together. From 2025 back to 1988, a supreme database, listen to it radiate.

**EDIT** I'm gonna keep adding to this with other Martorialist classics I think of or Martorialist classics which other people suggest. The one artist per rule is still firmly in full effect tho.

This time next year, Rodney, we'll be millionaires

Homeboy Sandman & Luke Warmth - Heet
(From Heet single; 2026)

The fact that Homeboy Sandman songs have always walked a very fine tightrope between endearing and embarrassing is part of the appeal for me. But when he takes a tumble into embarrassing it's always a Hans Gruber-level plummet. The production on Heet sounds like it should have been Ultimate Force's follow up single to I'm Not Playing, and that's the spoonful of sugar to make Sandman's line about buying crypto go down my gully hole smoothly. A cryptocurrency line in 2026 is cringeworthy enough in its own right, but it's hilariously embarrassing coming from the guy who made a song about how money is evil a couple of years back. Even Jim Jones doesn't rhyme about cryptocurrency anymore and he's the guy who spent a couple of years shilling "Capo Coin." Tha Blockchain Is Hot no more.

Our House

The IT - Mr Gone (Fingers Edit)
(From Larry Heard's Vault Sessions 3 EP; 2026)

Chicago House musik alert. Specifically, unreleased Larry Heard alert. Or rather, unreleased Larry Heard and Harry Dennis alert. 41 years after Larry & Harry first released Donnie together in 1985 they return with this gem under their original moniker. When Larry works his fingers while Harry flaps his lips, elite Chicago House invariably happens. This is musik for hard dance floors which sounds like it came from above the clouds. While you stannin' for EDHDM, we taxi for take-off. Keep your lugs peeled for an unexpected Ric Flair homage.

Shout out Brendan Fraser, we in this bitch!

Egyptian Lover - Vocoder Jam
(From 1987 album; 2025)

Continuing on from the last post, here's a more recent Egyptian Lover song that I definitely do like. This MF is using a Vocoder to sound like a drunken Cyberman over some sexy squelchy Electro. When that moog-bass hits it's like "HOLY ROBO-SHIT!!" If Egyptian Lover isn't hired to soundtrack the new The Mummy movie then we riot!

Surprise, bish!

Egyptian Lover - Everything She Wants
(From Everything She Wants single; 2026)

Sum shit NOBODY saw coming in 2026: Egyptian Lover covering Wham!'s Everything She Wants. I'm not sure I actually like it, but I'm glad it exists. The album mix of the Wham! song is a top 3 George Michael jam as far as I'm concerned. Kinda hilarious that a then-closeted gay bloke like George read Ester Vilar's controversial book The Manipulated Man and thought to himself "I can turn this subject into a perfect pop song!" Saturday to sunday, the Anglo-Greek Al Bundy.

Bonus beats: if you fancy some essential late-career Egyptian Lover boi, check out 5¢ Camel Ride (Long Version) or Future Compter where he reprised his Jamie Jupitor alias. The latter track sounds like ancient Cairo being attacked by Martian flying saucers and plz believe that's a compliment.

Jamie Jupitor - Future Computer

Movies I watched and liked:
Obsession (1949)
Rollercoaster (1977)
Weird Science (1985) *
Mona Lisa (1986) *

TV shows I watched and liked:
Doctor Who - The Ark (all 4 episodes) (1966)
The Capture (series 3 new episodes) (2026)
Mastermind (new episodes) (2026)
Arsenal vs. Chelsea (2026)

Arsenal vs. Bayer Leverkusen (2026)
Barcelona vs. Newcastle (2026)
Wrexham vs. Chelsea (2026)
Match Of The Day 1 and 2 (new episodes) (2026)

Other stuff: I made a playlist of some of my favourite songs on Thizz Nation albums and compilations; EttelThun dropped a Monsta Island Czars mix where he shouts out Mr. Bongo during the intro chat; I decided that Reel Ten by The Plugz would be the perfect funeral finale song.

You f**kin' right I drop playlists that knock whores. They knock whoadies too, I'm ambidextrous southpaw. This is slap, this is knock, this is mob shit, this is 15 songs from various albums and compilations on Thizz Entertainment. Your guess is as good as mine how the Mac Dre & Ma$e song Tycoonin' came to exist. For the unedited version where Ma$e's cussin' isn't edited out, I'd walk to Modesto.

Why didn't God take JD Vance instead of J.D.L from Cold Crush Brothers?

"And when I'm boppin' away I hear a lotta them say
'damn, I wanna be like the L someday!'"

Cold Crush Brothers - Fresh, Wild, Fly & Bold
(From Fresh, Wild, Fly & Bold 12" single; 1984)

I don't care about American politics but the post title's point still stands. R.I.P to Jerry Dee Lewis from Cold Crush Brothers. Goodness gracious, Fresh, Wild, Fly & Bold is a great ball of fire. A perfect 1980s Rap song where Cold Crush finally got their shit together in the studio as a riposte to the emergence of Run-D.M.C. I hope Heaven got a stage at The Dixie for the the L that rocks so well.

N.Y.C bonus beats: alas, Maino's Rumors 2026 is a rubbish sequel to one of my absolute favourite songs from the DVD era of Rap. Stick to the spodcasting with Gym-bore Jones, m8, and plz don't think about recording a sequel to your one great mixtape deep cut.

Can't you just all get along?

Smoney - Subliminals
(From Subliminals single; 2026)

This, apparently, is a dis track aimed at one of Smoney's Long Beach peers. However, here at The Martorialist we have zero interest in regional gangbanger Rap beef, and are purely interested in Subliminals for aesthetic reasons: the lad's talkin' shit over a beat which sounds like it interpolates some 80s arcade game like Wonder Boy. In fact, ur host is tryna take it back the 80s where I know very little about rappers beyond their songs. Ignorance was bliss.

Ice Terror

"You Rap n*ggas like a Disney movie
You either a rat, a duck or a f**kin' goofy"

Bruus & Mic Terror - Nothin' Can Stop
(From YouTube; 2026)

Calling Jmil: it's time for #MicTerrorHive to reassemble. Mic T and his m8 Bruus goin' line for line like Brian Harvey & Daniella Westbrook over some warbly Blaxploitation shit. The lads got excellent chemistry like those scientists in The Andromeda Strain.

Bonus beats: because Mic Terror is a big Ice-T fan here's the best video from the O.G: The Original Gangster VHS tape. It's a song about the trials and tribulations of touring, and the video is like The Fresh Prince gone L.A Gangster-Rap complete with multiple foils and even a fake airplane interior.

Ice-T - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Infamous
(From O.G: The Original Gangster VHS tape; 1991)

From the BBQ to The Bakery (part 5)

RBL Posse & The Yee Section - Don't Give Me No Bammer
(From the Splash Bakery YouTube channel; 2026)

Splash Bakery & The Yee Section are back on form this week. First they dropped a Live Performance With Real Instruments™ version of Don't Give Me No Bammer with RBL Posse. Then they dropped a Live Performance With Real Instruments™ version of Intro with DB Tha Geneeal which sounds like it was revamped and restamped by DJ Quik & Robert Bacon. Them Tiny Desk brehs could never.

School of Rock

Aesop Rock - Moving Day
(From Aesop Rock & Homeboy Sandman's Miami Lice: Season Four EP; 2026)

Woo hah!! Aesop Rock kept Homeboy Sandman in check on most of the songs on their new Lice EP. But my favourite jam on there is the Aes' Rock solo song Moving Day. It's a funny old world where Aesop Rock is my current preferred Noo Yawk rapper. Don't get it twisted like Rob Bottin's prosthetic effects tho - Labor Days is still unlistenable cack to me.

Sod all that tho, the main topic of today's post is a sincere R.I.P to Lord Sear. I hope Heaven got a radio cypher where Sear can spit funny drunken shit alongside his dearly-departed C.M Famalam m8s DOOM and Subroc. Sear's Ya Mouth Stink is one of the funkiest songs from the indie Rap 12" era and really should have been an A-side single on Fondle 'Em Records. Guru made halitosis a hot skit, Lord Sear made it a hot song.

Lord Sear - Ya Mouth Stink

Heaven is a place in New Orleans (part 2)

OnlyHeaven - No Lie
(From No Lie single; 2026)

Another post about OnlyHeaven's No Lie since it now has an official video. Her voice is truly the New Orleans equivalent of that bird who does the inner-monologue hypewoman ad libs on Slim Thug's Like A Boss. If I ruled the world then Rap radio would be full of XXXplicit R&Bounce songs like this.

Not so main Source

This was the first review which had Young Marty questioning whether The Source's ratings could be trusted. Reggie Dennis' glowing review and the 3.5 mic rating rating were out-of-sync like a dubbed VHS smut movie, and I had the album before I read the review so I already knew it was far better than a 3.5 mic rating. The bit which puzzles me most nowadays is Dennis' claim that Melle Mel wrote Straight Up N*gga. The flow kinda does sound like it contains Mel-titudes, but I've never seen any actual evidence that he wrote it. You'd think that Melle Muscles would have got some sort of official writing credit by now, right? After all, Prince Whipper Whip from Grandwizard Theodore & The Fantastic Five has a co-writer credit on Fried Chicken and that's just an interlude innit.

Ice-T - Fried Chicken
(From O.G. Original Gangster album; 1991)

** EDIT ** Werner dropped from the rafters into my comments and came through with clarification that Melle Mel was indeed the co-writer of Straight Up N*gga and he's credit on the penultimate page of the CD booklet.

Heaven is a place in New Orleans

OnlyHeaven - No Lie
(From YouTube; 2025)

I missed this one by OnlyHeaven AKA 5th Ward Breezie. This lass genuinely has one of my favourite voices in Rap right now: pleasantly piercing. Crazy visionz, BOOM: Ya Boy Big Choo is never gonna drop his remake of Dolamite's Hustlas, so OnlyHeaven should revamp it instead. Oi Johnny The Boxxx, have a word in her ear again plz.

What about our relationship?

The Plugz - Reel Ten
(From Repo Man soundtrack album; 1984)

From heartbreaking to heartwarming or wot? I was at a cremation a couple of weeks ago and got to thinking what songs I'd want played at my own funeral. Reel Ten by The Plugz has gotta be the ultimate valedictory track and it seems great minds think alike. It's a total no brainer because Reel Ten was literally precision-designed to soundtrack a cosmic ride at the end of Repo Man. A piece of music which could only ever be recorded for that specific Alex Cox movie: hauntingly beautiful Chicano Surf-Punk Morricone-core to "peace-out" to.

Never forget the Repo Man incidental music by The Plugz which wasn't on the soundtrack album tho. The petition to get it released starts here!

Saturday, 28 February 2026

Generic list post: February 2026

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when the first N.W.A remake of 2026 popped up. Some things really are eternal like E. 1999.

BunnaB - Mind Right (2026)
Mexikodro - Loser (2026)
Jill Scott - Pressha (2026)

Bonus bloggin: 1nce again I'm gonna use my monthly wrap-up post to keep track of the best movies and TV shows I've been watching. * indicates rewatches dunnit.

The Last Man On Earth (1964)

Before I exit stage left pursued by Big Bear, peep the 3 Audiomack playlists I made this month: Eric B. & Rakim's 2nd album reduced and rearranged; the best of Bavgate and some personal favourite Mac Dre deep cuts.
