Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when David Raya ensured he won't win this season's Ballon d'OR. Oh well, it's a tinpot title anyway. How can it possibly be a prestigious award when Michael f**King Owen won it once?

Zoomers will not besmirch the word Gooners

Donae'O - Big Up The Gooners Around The World
(From Big Up The Gooners Around The World single; 2026)

We did it, Brooklyn, we did it!! After 22 long, lean years, Arsenal have only gone and blown the bloody doors off. Sod a rollercoaster, it's been a full Alton Towers of emotions this season. So many times it looked like a second place Groundhog Day for the Gooners again, but they've somehow won the league with one game to spare. The 1989 title decider at Anfield was one of the first Arsenal games my grandad took me to, so I'm down 4 whateva like M.O.P & O.C, but Man Citeh have an annoying habit of pulling rabbits out of hats on the last game of the season. This time, however, the points stacked up, Pep & Erling couldn't catch up, all the salt that haters are throwin' Arsenal need some ketchup. KEEP THROWIN' SALT ON "SET PIECE F.C"! THATZ SEASONING TO A STEAK! Ain't naan another premiership team this season scored a better goal than Max Dowman against Everton. Just like Arne Slot did last season, Mikel Arteta laid the murder game down on Pep Guardiola. What's Peppin', Kermie? That motherf**ker's gone and he's not comin' back, B.

Don't fancy our chances much against PSG in the Champion's League final tho tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My Mind Spray 17

Pour out a Styles P smoothie for DJ Clark Kent. It's all luv to Biggie's Sky's The Limit and Realms Of Junior Mafia, but my favourite Works of Clark were Slick Rick's I Own America Part 1 and Why, Why, Why.

I checked out some music by that Malachi kid whose guest verses on the LARussell & P-Lo EP are such a joy. Alas, his own solo songs are some sub-J. Cole type shit where his puppy dog energy has been replaced by painful earnestness.

If Yams were still alive then he'd surely have steered A$AP Rocky into buying a better football team than Tranmere Rovers. Crazy visionz, BOOM: Rocky buys Chester FC instead and launches into a TV ratings battle with Chester's arch rivals/Disney's bitches Wrexham FC. Daphne & Celeste could flip Ooh Stick You for the Chester TV show's theme: "OOH STICK YOU, YOUR MULLIN TOO AND YOUR DISNEY!"

If the best Rap love songs of the 1980s are Slick Rick's Teenage Love, LL Cool J's I Need Love and Whodini's One Love then the worst have to be LL's One Shot At Love and Nice & Smooth's Something I Can't Explain. Kurtis Blow's Hello Baby deserves an honourable mention for drowning a very nice Davy DMX production in a sea of schmaltz.

People always over-think music bloggin'. You're a DJ/host and your blog is your radio show. It's that simple like Posh Spice & M.O.P.

Generic list post: June 2024

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Euro 2024 has been the dullest football tournament of my lifetime. Only highlights thus far have been Scotland being absolutely hopeless, and the Turkey versus Georgia game. The countdown begins NOW on England getting knocked out on penalties tonight. PS: peep my top 10 Baton Rouge rap songs of the 2020s so far IMHO playlist.

Thirstin Howl III ft. Sadat X - I Can't Dance (2010)
Rack-Lo - What's A Lo-Life To Me (2013)

John Scott - Cold Sweat (1978)

One Team Country

Real Lies - World Peace
(From Real Life album; 2015)

On one hand, Tom Watson leaving Real Lies was a pity because World Peace is the ne plus ultra(s) Forza RL song. On the other hand, Watson's departure inspired Boss Trick and he still contributes backing vocals to Real Lies songs which require his sweet boi touch like Dream On and Since I. The great thing about music is that songs only partially belong to their creators, they also belong to the listeners and however we interpret them. Real Lies say World Peace is about the conflicting bittersweet emotions you feel at the end of a relationship, I say World Peace is a second Nessun Dorma summer anthem to rival New Order's Italia '90 theme tune World In Motion.

To paraphrase another Real Lies song, you always thought 3 Lions was holdin' us together, but it turns out it was just holdin' us back. It's no wonder the English football team are cursed when their biggest anthem features David Baddiel, and their second and third biggest anthems feature Keith Allen. The English public continually being fooled into believing that Lily Allen's posh c**t dad is a football fan is conclusive proof that my country doesn't deserve nice stuff. Never have I less Felt I Was Part Of Something™ than when I hear Vindalooo in the pub before an England game. Thus, the campaign to use World Peace as England's official Euro 2024 theme starts NOW!

Previously: Real Lies Shit.

Generic list post: April 2023

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when the Premier League became as pointless as the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the Scottish Premier League. Why couldn't Elon Musk's shitty space rocket have crash landed on Manchester Citeh's training ground and injured their entire first team until the end of the season????

Drama - Big Ball (2001)
Homeboy Sandman - A! (video) (2022/2023)
Nef The Pharaoh - What Do You Like (2023)
Suga Free & Kokane - Bitch In Da Trunk (2023)
iCandy - Keep Dat N*gga (2023)
Curren$y & Jermaine Dupri - Screens Fallin' (2023)
Rae Sremmurd - Flaunt It/Cheap (2023)
Mic Terror - Might Pimp (2023)
Big Doobie - I Go To Costco For That Wock (And That Chicken Bake) (2023)
Madness - Night Boat To Cairo (French TV performance) (1980)
Bad Manners - Inner London Violence (1980)
S-J - I Feel Divine (Dem 2 remix) (1997)

Other reading/listening: I put together a Day Day Sustaaa Quinary Of Quality playlist; Mosi Reeves wrote a killer article on 80s Bay Area Rap; EttelThun did a mix of Harry Allen's 12 Underacknowledged Hip-Hop Cuts; Chicken N Kalinka put together a 4 part best of Slip-N-Slide Records compilation; Juiceboxxx took us back in time with his favourite concert clips from 2003; The Spartorialist paid tribute to movie opinionz from the Baby Blue.

PS: that Drama Big Ball single linked up top is my second favourite late pass discovery song of 2023 so far. It's like Mystikal recorded a Country Grammar-era Nelly type single. Cheers to Chicken-N-Kalinka's aforementioned best of Slip-N-Slide Records compilation for that one.

Exclusive footage of Britain colonising France (1980)

Madness - Night Boat To Cairo
(From Le Collaro Show; 1980)

Because I'm still in the 2 Tone zone after Dance Craze, here's Madness doing Night Boat To Cairo on some French TV show in 1980. It's a mimed performance, but in the best way possible. Word around town, England's 2022 World Cup semi-final loss to France was reparations for this clip. Parlez-vous Francais, mi amor, merci, oui oui, bon bons, good moaning and all apologies.

Back in 2019 I tried to solve the ever-enduring question of One Step Beyond or Night Boat To Cairo? In hindsight, the answer is clearly BOTH!

Generic list post: December 2022

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Harry Kane's penalty joined Bobby Shmurda's hat in space. Also the month when Terry Hall's data expired. As the lead vocalist of The Specials and Fun Boy Three, Terry was music's best sardonic curmudgeon of the late 70s/early 80s, and I'm genuinely bummed that we're never gonna get a FB3 reunion tour now.

Gucci Crew II - Why's It Always Got To Run (1988)
Luh Tyler - Law & Order (2022)
Luh Tyler - Back Flippin' (2022)
Kookei - Incredible (2022)
Kookei - Toknight (2022)
Steve Da Stoner ft. Rubberband Bootsy - King (2022)
Jack Harlow - First Class (instrumental with hook) (2022)
Sylvia - Pillow Talk (1973)
SZA - Nobody Gets Me (2022)

Other notables: someone in my comment section recommended me Texas by BigXthaPlug; Lil' Ricefield dropped my fave Christmas song of 2022; Ezale dropped a a new teaser snippet that's got me fiending like it's 2016 again; keep it between me & you, but I'm kinda feelin' a new Stalley song called Dilla Bap.

Further reading: my 2022 best songs list, my 2022 late pass best discoveries list, and my 2022 best TV & movies list. Party Sparty repped for Smut Peddlers' One By One in his top 100 Rap songs of the 1990s list.

Alphabet Boy

Lucas Moura is a professional footballer who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and the Brazil national team.
"My mother used to tell me that there's plenty of fish in the sea
But why play anybody else when you can listen to me?
There hasn't been a threat to mention since I stepped on the scene
So, I'm off to save a cat that's stuck in a tree"

Homeboy Sandman - A!
(From A! single; 2022)

New Sandman loosie. Same considerably more egghead-than-you vybz as his latest EP, but much more pleasing to my ear here. I ain't gonna sit here and pretend there's any intellectually or musically rich reason for this - I just enjoy him saying "A! A! A! A! A! A!" in his funny Rammellzee voice over a beat that's all bass like Clear Lake fishing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Really doe, "find you a predilection, make it to an addiction" is some A+ game.

One 4 the Britz (and Ghanaianz)

Donae'O - Partey Hard
(From YouTube; 2020)

9/10 for sheer opportunism here: Donae'O remakes his own U.K Funky classic Party Hard in tribute to Arsenal signing Thomas Partey. Maybe it deserves a 10/10 since the video is hosted by Arsenal Fan TV and features multiple annoying mugs from the channel. Not entirely sure that the proverbial roof of the Emirates Stadium has ever been "on fire", but let's not let deetz get in the way of bantz. Anyhoo, it's all fun and games until Donae'O ends up with egg on his face if Partey turns out to be the Ghanaian Denilson innit?

Trap Goin' (Beck)Ham

Trap Beckham ft. Flo Milli - Back It Up
(From the internet; 2020)

It's a game of two halves, Clive. They just don't make booty anthems like this anymore: songs that sound like the past, present and future at the SAME DAMN TIME! Back of the net, my son & shawty.

Who'd have ever thunk there'd be a Rapper called Trap Beckham tho? You'll never win anything with kidz unless you've got a different class of '92: Crunk Giggs, Atlanta Bass Scholes, Snap Butt, and the Futuristic Swag Neville Brothers.

Bonus beats: Flo Milli's new single is hardbody. Not so much death by stereo as death by stiletto.

Flo Milli - Like That Bitch
(From the internet; 2020)

"Big top, small legs - bitch built like a wine glass!"

Monday, 29 April 2019

Generic list post: April 2019

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Drake's Curse struck the red half of Manchester. Lads, it's Tottenham Audrey Graham. Hold on, we're going Hamburg on a thursday night.

Bizzie Boyz - Crazy Hard! (1988/2011)
Pete Rock - Street Dreams (Instrumental) (1996/2019)
Rich Blue - Kikan (2019)
Hit-Boy & SOB X RBE - Family Not A Group (2019)
Hoyt Axton - Telephone Booth (Ole Smokey Edit) (1974/2016)

Other notables: not technically a song, but I've been jammin' J Hus' Daily Duppy freestyle too ("big bunda, she in the Bundesliga"); that Children's Story demo from the deluxe reissue of Slick Rick's debut album is more like a Ruler's Back-era sequel where Rick only had time to write one verse; props to ANU for finding the first notable Baby Soulja song since Dirty; Doe Boy's Walk Down is 2019's first entry in Boyz-N-The-Hood-core canon; didn't like anything on that new Rico Nasty EP meself.

Late pass!

Thanx to the #BetYouWontChallenge, a previously little-known Level & Mouse On Tha Track cut from 2015 is currently one of the biggest songs in Baton Rouge. Good thing the song's gotten a new lease of life too because this one is a grand imperial jiggalator in the vein of Get It Back and we've all slept on it until now:

Level ft. Mouse On Tha Track - I Bet U Won't
(From Level's Authentic album; 2015/YouTube; 2017)

Level & Mouse did Ya Boy Big Choo dirty by featuring that biter Peter Pan Dan up in this video. Surprised Dan's even got time to appear in rap videos these days now he's a rising star on Arsenal FanTV, tbqh.

Hammer time!

Alf Garnett sez: "Us 52%ers didn't vote Brexit so them bloody Ghancehall artists from Bongo-Bongo Land could come to our country and chirpse all our crumpet! The fing about these fackin' foreigners is that they ain't fussy when it comes to how's yer father - that Shatta Wale lad will stick his Bobby Moore up Stefflon Don's Battersea and then slip his Julian Dicks into Janine Butcher's east end innit!"

Shatta Wale - London Girls
(From t'internet; 2017)

Ya Host sez: "Song is hot like a tea kettle get! Whether you live in Clapham, Oldham, Wrexham, Strathan or Cloghan, London Girls is a legit Summer Jam™ for the first weekend of 2017 when all us Brits can get our scotch eggs out like yung Fat Frank on the pitch! Can't we all just get along so I can put hickies on her A$$ like Big Sean?"

Martorial elegance: O.G Bobby Robson edition

He ducks from Ralo, but he trusts in Rafa... it's Rich Homie Quan:

A lesson to be learned for all Atlanta rappers who stop makin' good songs and get their career stolen by (former enemy) YFN Lucci - f*ck around and end up wearin' a Newcastle United replica shirt in a British R&B sanger's video. Quan might be persona non grata in NYC for forgetting Biggie verses, but he's every Geordie's favourite ATLien doon Bigg Market on a saturday night, like.

Make the trap say "Wye Aye, pet!" Shit's hard out here for a Geordie today because it's exactly 15 years to the night since Bergkamp scored that goal against Newcastle.

Your ferry across the Mersey is about to sink

Subtitle: N.W.A >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Y.N.W.A.

Thought I'd throw the MP3s of those Point Blank Fam songs with Mouse and Kevin Gates up for your downloading pleasure before this glorious afternoon of football starts.

Point Blank Fam ft. Mouse On Tha Track - G-Step
(From the internet; 2012)

Point Blank Fam ft. Kevin Gates - Rollercoaster
(From Boo Milton's 2 Sides, 1 Story mixtape; 2013)

(Probably not that glorious in reality, tbh; Citeh winning instead of the Bindippers is like choosing between ebola or the black plague.)

I feel like Fabio Quagliarella

Let's just take a moment to remember that a Youtube video of Nigel Reo-Coker & Anton Ferdinand doing the Crank That dance in some room with a Michael Jackson Bad poster on the wall is something which actually exists in the real world unlike Oscar Pistorius' burglar or Lil' Pain's fanbase. Insert your own John Terry joke here ~~~~~> _______

Unlike every other footballer to play in the premiership with the possible exception of Mario Balotelli, Nigel Reo-Coker Nostra had pretty good taste in rap, as he proved when he did the Laffy Taffy dance after scoring against Arsenal in a match that lost me £100. Talk about Game Owe Me! Still, I don't even care that big Nige' ruined Laffy Taffy for me in the process because it's 6th best song on the D4L album and everybody knows that Do It Like Me Baby is the track from Down For Life which should have been a single, right?

D4L - Do It Like Me Baby
(From Down For Life album; 2005)

Snap back!!!

Been waitin' on this one ever since I heard it on the Ballers Eve radio show back in september. Grip Plyaz has channeled the holy ghosts of D4L and Trap Squad a few times since Stuntman Mike (see: Let's Get To It, I Got What You Need, and Don't Give A Damn) but this might be his best stab yet at what Snap would've/could've/should've mutated into. As I may have mentioned yesterday, I haven't heard an ATLanta Rap song with a bassline as insane as this since Trap Squad's What's Happenin':

Grip Plyaz - Ray Lewis
(From t'internet; 2013)

As an ignorant British pig the song's theme is slightly confusing for me, doe: is Grip Plyaz Ray Lewis-ing in the club because he's dancing like Ray did or is it because he's gettin' away with murder in the club like, y'know, Ray also did?

Bonus Snap/sport related action: never forget the time Nigel Reo Coker did the Laffy Taffy at Highbury after he scored for West Ham against Arsenal in 2006. I sure haven't because it lost me a cool oner on an accumulator I had.

Martorial elegance # 73

Blk ppl wearing band-aids as fashion accessories >>>>>>>>> whte ppl trying to feed blk ppl via Band-Aid :
