Generic list post: September 2020

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Mello-T was finally back on the BBC. (Albeit unseen footage of Mello-T when Louis Theroux revisited him in 2004.)

Mac Dre & Khayree - Times R Gettin' Crazy (acoustic) (1991)
Chilee Powdah - Nuthin' But Game (1996)
DB Tha General - Upgrade Em 3 (2020)
YG - Out On Bail (2020)
Sire Sensai - 1999 (1999)
Hollywood Holt & Million $ Mano - The Show (2011)
Mic Terror - Ride (2020)
Gzus Piece - Taladega (2020)
Mick Jenkins - Carefree (2020)
YN Jay & Louie Ray - Reflection (2020)
GetEmTree - Intro (2020)
Andwella - Hold On To Your Mind (1970)
SAULT - Son Shine (2020)

Other notables: Mac J's Go 1st makes a decent B-side to OldSkoo; Veeze's Law N Order is a notable new entry into the TV theme tune Rap canon; nice to hear a 3 minute Valee solo song and see him wearin' Adidas Superstar tracksuits again; Hotbox was right about CeeFineAss' Payback; Jmil was right about Durand Bernarr's Summons being a dope Nate Dogg homage and Jacquees dis at the same damn time; judging from the snippets of Pullin' More Strings, it sounds like A-Wax is supplying me Spotify playlist bunk with no bass in its trunk.

I'm liking those DB and YG songs in particular. Is it me or is DB kinda overlooked when it comes to good/great modern West Coast rappers?

Lowkey very influential too since Lil B was the Pack member with the deepest voice until DB dropped Welcome To The Navy, and obviously SOB X RBE and all their clones directly or indirectly got their Rap style from him.

I’m still not understanding all the SAULT praise but when one of their songs is good it’s GREAT. Are there any others on that project you like?

I’m hoping YG continues the nu-jerk/G funk vibe of FTP and Out on Bail on most of the new album but I highly doubt it.

YG's Swag is very much nu-Jerk too.

Anonymous, I like the new SAULT album more than the one from a few months back. But there isn't a song on the new one as good as Wildfires imho.

Speaking of A-Wax does anyone have links to his Discography? I've only got Thug Deluxe & that album he did with Gonzo.

https://saultglobal.bandcamp.com/track/you-know-it-aint The beat and ESPECIALLY the concept this would be perfect for Quelle Chris to rap on. Even Mic Terror.

No love for the new Paris?

Ray, I haven't heard a Paris album since Sonic Jihad.

Anonymous, good idea.

That Sire Sensai is so good. Surprised no one in Chicago has flipped that style for this new era... White Gzus did a bit, I guess

Good point about White Gzus.

Can't say I've ever heard a song from The Pack and I never really got into Lil B, but I know you're riding for Vans and possibly an assortment of Lil B songs. It's going to be hard for me to trace the lineage, which leaves me with just enjoying Knock Em Down perpetually.

Lil B got pre-rap Kreayshawn to shoot his videos because he liked her videos for DB.

That Gzus Piece album is kinda good https://youtu.be/Udl2N8l8PXk

Hot Tub Time Machine should be the next single imo.
