Generic list post: 2005 postscript bonus beats

Word to your mum, I'm in my own world. Thus I had no idea Noz was bloggin' again until someone linked me his Best 100 Rap songs of 2005 list. Other than him picking the wrong Edan song (Funky Rhyming FTW) it's a great list dedicated to the greatest year of the 2000's. Such a great year, in fact, that it's possible to keep going with songs by artists who didn't make the Noz list (technically in a couple of cases, tbf.)

M.O.P - Instigator
Fam-Lay - Amalance
Dirt McGirt - Lift Ya Skirt (12" solo mix)
Killer Mike ft. Three 6 Mafia - Get 'Em Shawty
Maino - Rumors
Bailey ft. Dave Chappelle - Fuck Yo' Couch
Purple City - It Ain't Easy
Mac Dre, Boss Hog, B-Luv & Husalah - Hustle
Husalah - Since '88
Mobb Deep - Cobra
Saigon ft. Kool G. Rap - The Letter P (remix)
Ludacris - Number One Spot
Playaz Circle ft. Shawnna - Gucci Bag
Blaq Poet - Bang Dis!
A-Wax - Money / Life
Woodie & A-Wax - The Yoc & The Burg
Redman - Gilla House Check
Down Bad Ent. - Keep Rollin'
Black Rob - Ready
Dru Down - Summer In The City
Clinton Sparks ft. Beanie Sigel & Peedi Crakk - Philly
Consequence - Caught Up In The Hype
Jakki Tha Motamouth - Cleptobrainiac

I feel like the mid 2000s marked the end of the non digital era cause after that the internet became more viable for making and promoting music.

Yep. The era of albums leaking weeks before release, the end of the 12" singles, the birth of YouTube.

I can't work out whether 5th Ward Weebie's Fuck Katrina was 2005 or 2006.

The Maino video is hilarious haha.

It's kinda like the How To Rob of the street DVD era.

Lil Wayne Tha Mobb

Fave song on that album but Noz had Wayne in his list so I couldn't include him.

damn i totally forgot about "instigator," great song

a few of these were on the short list but i ultimately had to make a lot of tough choices like "'fuck yo couch' or 'i got grapes'?" i've never even heard the wax and woodie album though

the odb song i liked a lot from 05 was "coochie" with luda, sounds like luda was writing for odb which actually works well, it was later ruined for that dumb dame dash blakroc black keys album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P7-j422zac&ab_channel=XxRiZZ327xX

fuck katrina was 06 i think, or at least that's when it hit blogs

Instigator = the last great M.O.P song and the one great 9th Wonder production.

Not heard that ODB & Luda song before. Nice.

Woodie's Northern Exposure compilations have some peak A-Wax gems too. Me is a fave.

Should probably note that it's the solo 12" mix of Lift Ya Skirt not the later version with Missy from the bootleg album.

last great m.o.p. song was "sharks in the water" imo

"hit your ass in broad daylight like mark chapman did john lennon from the beatles - here's a fresh tuxedo"

Last great MOP song was actually 187

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

187 is good, but Instigator is a true M.O.P great.

Smell Rell, even I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson is better than Switch.

can't believe no one included Summer With Miami.

or Twista's "Lavish" or "Get You Home" or "Chocolate Fe's & Redbones"

There really are just so many from 05. Sean Price "Onion Head"

Beans "Bread & Butter"

Tony Yayo "Pimpin"

Bump J f/ Kanye "Pusha Man"

Summer Wit Miami might be the best Rap & Bullshit single in the Dipset canon, but as a Max B stan I'd go for G's Up too obvs.

Personal fave '05 Tony Yayo song is Fake Love.
