The Show forreal forreal

It was the moment I desired - finally a Slick Rick U.K tour! The Ruler's first time back on the manor since him & Doug did The Show on Top Of The Pops in 1985 apparently. He's even gonna be bubblin' in Dublin for Donal & this blog's 6 Irish readers. The only question here is, is his live show any cop?

Ya host caught the Pete Rock & CL Smooth reunion tour a couple of weeks ago and Pete Rock accidentally managed to piss off the REAL HIP HOP brigade by playing Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees as their intro, while CL was a surprisingly consummate performer/convivial raconteur with crystal clear vox, banter about British sport, and corresponding dance routines for every song: hulking out for I Get Physical, a variation on the cooking dance for The Main Ingredient, finger countin' for One In A Million, air-saxophone for T.R.O.Y and so on. The only downside was they did Lots Of Lovin' when everybody was waiting for All Souled Out or even a medley of Skinz and The Basement.

Old rappers should be heard live and not seen on t'internet. Pete Rock is gonna have kittens if he ever catches wind of that Instagram video of the mother & toddler rapping along to TEC & Maine Musik's Ain't No Coming Down.

Spiral needs to be the support act for Dublin.

Slightly worried about the "live band" but copping tickets regardless.

Wait, there's a live band backing him?

Noooooooooooooooooo!

ah fuck sake, the only deal breaker possible.

Big Daddy Kane has a heap to answer for.

I can't see any mention of a band, just his DJ Kaos + some backing singers called The Rickettes.

As long as there's no UB40-lookin' ass blokes with guitars and keyboards it's gonna be good to go.

I'm gonna assume that the "special surprise" Rick has in store for the London show is Doug E. Fresh.

We'll probably get some Glastonbury fodder student cunt like Beardyman doing the beatboxing for the Manc and Dublin shows.

Which bastard first convinced rappers they should work with live bands?

Jonzun Crew? Newcleus? Stetsasonic?

Me, I prefer to blame Questlove. He was the one who inspired Common to use a live backing band for his shows in the late 90s.

I was thinking maybe Jay-Z really popularised it with that Unplugged CD he did.

All roads lead back to Questlove again.

Cypress Hill & Stetsasonic mightve had drummers in addition to a dj or w e but for the first pure real instruments fuckery Id give it to that time LL let Jingling Baby+Mama Said, 2 of the goat beats ever, get punk smooved into oblivion.

Id rather hear a million leather wristband cunts do Hit Me Baby One More Time w an acoustic guitar than hear that again.

LL's Dr Seuss hat + high waisted slacks were as bad as the music.

Now fully resigned to the fact that Rick's band are gonna make his back catalogue sound like Level 42 so I'm gettin' my air-bass game tight. Nipple height the minimum.

p sure he wasnt in the Rampage & H.E.A.L. videos cos no one wanted him and his Blossom top hat ruining the ambience. He had a lot of em before baldheads got in vogue but the peak stupid LL hats prob the 6 Mins of Pleasure furry boxcar hobo joint.
