DJ Kayslay ft. nearly everybody ever - Rolling 110 Deep
(From Accolades EP; 2021)

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Kayslay orchestrated a 110 rapper deep posse cut/video with Lord Jamar doing virus/crisis/third iris #Scamdemic raps. Ain't gonna pretend like I watched the entire 40 minute video but I can't help but be impressed that Slay managed to get AZ, Ice-T, Coke La Rock, Uncle Murda, E-A-Ski, Pretty Tone Capone, Gunplay, and Nice & Smooth on the SAME DAMN SONG!

Phil Blunts - On The Attack (video) (1996)
Blackalicious - Make You Feel That Way (2002)
A-Wax & Smigg Dirtee - What We Bout (2007/2021)
Dru Down - Everywhere I Go (2021)
Homeboy Sandman - Yup. Do It! (2021)
Homeboy Sandman - Superman (2021)
Reese Youngn - Warrior (2021)
Jenevieve - Midnight Charm (2021)
Children Of Zeus - I Know (2021)
SAULT - Bitter Streets (2021)

Other notables: Homeboy Sandman's non-Slice of Life song was cool too; in the canon of Posse On Broadway beatjacks, Gucci Mane & Pooh Shiesty's Posse On Bouldercrest is slightly better than Yo Gotti's Reppin' North Memphis, but nowhere near as good as E-40's Big Ballin' With My Homies or Dipset's 145th & Broadway.

RIP Gift of Gab.

Did watch the entire thing, if only for the novelty and lol-factor. Some notable highlights

* The extremely punchable face, voice and general existence of Merkules
* Verses from Greg Nice, Rock, McGruff, AZ, Ghostface (featured twice, also under Tony Starks), Kool DJ Red Alert cameo, Pretty Tone Capone of course and Sauce Money are either pretty enjoyable or notable for other reasons (looking at you, PT Capone!)
* Subdued Gunplay is uninteresting Gunplay. Bit of the same issues as Gucci Mane: happy dude's living a healthy life, but his creative output suffers massively for it

His "Rolling x MC's deep" are pretty fun to watch ones and then never look at again. Not the worst novelty act in rap.

Merkules lookin' like Haystak and Fred The Godson at the SAME DAMN TIME!

I'm just marvelling that Slay managed to get video parts from everybody. In an industry as flaky and disorganised as rap that's a miracle.

The Uncle Murda verse was my fave, natch.

Oh yeah forgot Uncle, definitely agree. One of the last more traditionalist rappers from New York capable of making a good record nowadays.

He shoulda took it back to the Dez days and had someone from Style Wars on there too. Maybe Skeme & his mum.

Would live to know more about the Posse on Broadway break. Do those drums come from Whodini’s I’m a Ho? Or did Mix-A-Lot hear them via Eazy-E’s Boyz N Tha Hood?

Also Melodica is timeless and beautiful forever.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I'd imagine it's Whodini. Funny how other regions loved I'm A Ho more than Whodini's own city.

I actually lol’d when I saw Pretty Tone Capones outfit and it was pretty nice to hear a rare Grand Puba appearance. Also this probably isn’t notable to any one else but that white dude Millyz grew up with my girlfriend 😂

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Millyz is every Massachusettes white rapper stereotype condensed into one person,

noah said...

Totally. Is Lil Flip’s I Got Flow the only notable I’m a Ho homage?

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I've got a soft spot for the Cube & Master P one too.

Yeah I met him once he was cool but his musics nothing special.

That is the best song on the new SAULT album. This is the weakest SAULT album though.

I thought the AZ and Gunplay verses were good.

Fred The Godson appearing from beyond the grave!

Had a weird fast forward experience w this where the usual washed suspects got skipped (ghost, styles etc plus any battle rappers/Kay slay weed cartiers) but the wtf ones were trepidatious must-watches. Like you rly have to doff the hat to Kay slay for coke la rock n PT Capone. PTs verse was gr8 even if apparently he can't rap now without f bombs. Still got it n can't believe anyone mentioned his fit in less than glowing terms in these comments

If Kase2 hadn't died he might have been on there. Never forget his Stretch & Bobbito appearance!

No way im gonna get around to listening to it but happy to attempt and edit if you want to pick out the better ones and timestamp them for me

Whoa gr8 find.

Can't believe e-a-ski dissed the south on his bit like some 2007 New Yorker lol

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Step, they're all timestamped in the top comment on YouTube.

Donal, wot a lickspittle eh?

noah said...

Yes.

Also What We Do is doo doo dumb. Forgot about that one.
