Generic list post: 80s non-Rap 101

Robert Tepper dramatically lip-syncing his way through the best song from the Rocky IV OST on some German TV show. Lotta speculation in the YouTube comments about whether Tepper colours his hair or not, but I couldn't care less meself - if he dyes, he dyes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What does a white boy from the UK know about the unofficial American black national anthem “Before I Let Go”? lol. I’m just kidding man what an awesome list. Love all the Jam & Lewis & Teddy Riley productions. And the Anita Baker, Patrice Rushen (who Prince’s “I Wanna be Your Lover” & “I Feel For You” was about) DeBarge & Cameo songs.

That Guy album with “Teddy’s Jam” on it is probably the best new jack swing album. Also I was listening to an interview and had no idea that Teddy Riley produced Doug E. Fresh’s “The Show”. He is probably in the top 10 most important black music figures in the last 35 years.

John Sullivan singing "TVs, deep freeze, and David Bowie LPs" on Hooky Street >>>>>>> any actual David Bowie LPs

You picked the one good Smiths song 👍

Only track which offends my sensibilities there is by the Stone Roses. Madchester was far more toxic for the North than Thatcher's government, imho.

co-sign the Teddy Riley comment hard and also this list is in need of some The Time and Let The Music Play. Wild Boys by Duran Duran still goes

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I cut Let The Music Play for the Round The Twist theme, I'm just bein' honest.

Good list. "It's So Easy" is superb and the only good song GnR did. Would have picked "I Love Living In The City" for FEAR but I'm down with most of this. Wouldn't have put Minor Threat in meself though, should have some Discharge and/or Misfits in there somewhere

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Related: GNR recently dropped an unreleased It's So Easy video.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I've changed my mind and gone for My Space as the Virgo song instead of Free Yourself.

This is phenomenal. Would you ever consider doing one for the '90s, '00s and/or '10s?

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I keep meaning to but never gotten around to them.

Fair enough. Something to keep on the back burner.
