The River Juvenile

"I make these slaps for the hustlas, made men
I pulled us out a dark hole, was cavemen
What can I say? She was a 10, I caved in
So many n***as in the Backyard it caved in
I worked for mine, this ain't somethin' you could trade in"

LaRussell & Cam Cortez ft. Malachi - Brainchild
(From From Vallejo With Love album; 2024)

One last LaRussell song for 2024. NOLA-influenced NorCal tracks always yield better results than NOLA-influenced tracks from other Rap regionals because NorCal artists tend to infuse them with a sense of fun which is generally absent elsewhere. This song, Boycott and Beautiful Day In The Bay from LaRussell's new LP with Cam Cortez behind the boards make me forgive 'Russell for that Godawful Chance The Rapper-core shite he was dropping a couple of months back.

LaRussell is probably the rapper I listened to most this year.

Some extra songs I stumbled on in the past few weeks:

Am I Musty - especially the video where LaRussell was driven around in a caddy by Marshawn Lynch was good. Love the thumping production as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSp-f6_xm2Y

Fresh Prince Of The V - exactly what you think it is. Love the 80's visuals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esHLk4mg30w

The Breaks - exactly what you hope it will be. Name checks Kurtis Blow and interpolates Melle Mel's hook on The Message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRhrqg37Qvc

As far as his loosies go, I fuxwit Happy Teriyaki Anthem too. Big fan of rappers puttin' on for their favourite local food spots.
