My Mind Spray 7.5

When Grand Daddy I.U died recently, someone suggested he was Kid Capri's ghostwriter for The Tape album. Never caught wind of that rumour before but I can definitely hear imprints of I.U's flow in Capri's words and how they're delivered. The Tape is a very enjoyable album, and finding out that Grand Daddy I.U possibly contributed to it only adds another layer of enjoyment for me.

My favourite non-2023 Rap song discovery of 2023 so far has gotta be B.A.N.P by Day Day Sustaaa. It's possible I'll find another non-2023 Rap song that's better than B.A.N.P but unlikely I'll find one that's harder.

Someone needs to ask Devin The Dude why Yo' Ho got cut from the retail version of Just Tryin' Ta Live. What possible reason was there to shelve a bonzer Dr. Dre production which was beggin' to be the album's main single?

Life's a bastard when I've become a big Homeboy Sandman fan, but the only U.K show on his current European tour is in London. Would recommend catching him live because his 2019 Liverpool show with Edan was a blast and had me going back searching out the older songs he performed like America, The Beautiful and Talking (Bleep).

I thought Jim Jones' 2007 Simon Cowell lookin' ass bootcut jeans were the nadir of rapper denim, but those bellbottomed skinny distressed jeans rappers are wearing nowadays are a new low.

I agree about Yo Ho. Where would you put it in the track list?

Between Just A Man and Fa Sho would work for me.

I can't remember where it was on the advance version tracklist. Can't remember where Right Now was either.

Wish I could go to that Homeboy Sandman show.

Despite the corny name, the Jazz Cafe is a great venue innit? Seen a few shows there from De La Soul to Devin The Dude.

Luckily enough, Souls Of Mischief are doing 93 'Til Infinity from front-to-back in Liverpool the same night Sandman plays London so we're going that.

Did that OG Right Now ever leak? Also didn’t know it was originally supposed to be on JT.

I bet it's on Soulseek somewhere.

The guitar replay on the retail version is better anyway. Mike Dean >>>>> James Taylor.

It should def replace the pile of shite w xzibit n nas that's on there, only bad song in that golden 15 yr run n the start of Nas ruining classic albums w guest verses run.

Found out Devin has like 11 kids or something on the geto boys podcast. Also that scarface is the goat rapper/producer. The 8ball n mjg ep has a 15 min section where scarface asks them "did you see puffy hit any of the buttons on the machine?!?" followed by pulling up every face solo album tracklist so he can fact check every production credit of his that Mike Dean or someone janked.
Geto boys>>>>> nore n Joe buddens

Kprice, when in Rome...

Donal, I listened to that song twice when the album first dropped. Skipped that shit ever since.

Which 15 year run?

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I assume Donal means the Odd Squad album to Waitin' To Inhale,

True. Landing Gear was such a disappointment but I remember there being two good songs

The Hi Life album with Yo Ho' + other unreleased songs which Rap-A-Lot put out at the same time as Landing Gear was much better.

Would love an essential Devin the Dude post. You do great work.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Thanx.

Bad Company off Hi Life definitely qualifies as essential Devin.

I find it hard personally to adjust to someone still making good music but losing that idiosyncratic spark a bit imo if theyre real legit “characters” - wayne, e-40 etc. the later devin shits actually p good but cant say i loled out loud at anyof it like with zeldar or he was stillsetting the tone with features eg bizarre - porno bitches

I suppose by that standard the facemob album doesnt qualify as essential devin cos he was p normie on it but its too jamming idk

Hope Fresh Rims And Vogues makes your devin comp, that coughee brothers album came after waiting to inhale iirc

Need to revisit that Coughee Brothaz album because I haven't heard it in yonks.
