Another prick in the 300 wall

Lyor Cohen may have bounced to pastures YouTube, but 300 Entertainment are up to their old tricks again by tinkering with songs they've acquired the official retail/streaming rights to. This past Friday saw OMB Peezy's Lay Down + When I Was Gone, and the Creek Boyz With My Team hit all the big retail/streaming outlets, and each song had been tampered with to its detriment; the changes are subtle production alterations rather than the bolted-on new verses 300 acquisitions were known for in the past, but the tweaks are still significantly jarring for anyone who's spent time jamming the Hell outta any of the 3 songs. The parts no longer fit, awwww shit!

This is precisely why we can't have nice things. It's also why we must make do with low-bitrate Soundcloud rips, and why YouTube remains the G.O.A.T streaming service for rap, at least until Lyor gains more control of its machinations.

HEY LILES - LEAVE THEM SONGS ALONE!

Fuck me, not Lay Down! thats one of my fav songs the past couple yrs. Also how can they obtain the rights to a song thats a beatjack in the first place?

Its kinda on a handful of ppl to archive this shit you cant trust streaming outlets, Ive been boycotting em. Partly cos my phone internets v slow tbh.

Thankfully, the proper Lay Down MP3 is on Peezy's own Audiomack page.

Nice dont think the videos changed either, n I think My Cabana was the same story. At least Im not riding round w a gammy youtube rip like w that one n Cha Cha.

Also there rly needs to be like a site taking note every time this happens so ppl late to a song even know bout it.

There was that huge Lil' Uzi Vert song earlier this year with the redone hook of the Soundcloud original too.

I'm afraid to even look and see what they did to 'With My Team' :(. This might be a dumb question but why do the labels change the songs like that/what's their angle/benefit for tweaking them?

You're right, seems like they really softened the gang vocals on "With My Team." That rawness gave the song a long of its emotional affect :/

fuck da industry

I would guess they want something that sounds different to the free version that's already on t'internet? I dunno, it's a stupid fucking notion.

they change them up b/c of possible sample issues, or couldnt get something cleared etc...maybe even issues with the producer, and maybe he already sold the rights to someone else. The label would never just fuck with something for the sake of it, maybe a better mix or touch up some sounds but never change sounds/drum patterns for the fuck of it. This stuff happens all the time for records like this.
