The obligatory BEST RAP SONGS OF 2024 post

UrFavGrannie - Boy Bye
(From Boy Bye; 2024)

Martatina says cast ya votes. Tell E-40, yeah grab ya peacoats. Tell Lakim Shabazz, yeah grab ya notes. And DJ Kool & crew, y'all lads clear ya throats. Check it out, I'm bloggin' on the spot, postin' like an anvil ready to drop.

Nowadays, I'm at the point where I consider the modern music I like as the apex of contemporary art, and the modern music I dislike as the worst shit I've ever heard in my life. Listen, anybody can write words, who's prepared to do the dirty work like a swineherd? And searching for new Rap I like REALLY feels like dirty work when I've listened to eight terrible songs in a row just to find that one Killer Track™. Nobody ever said finding Legit Choonz™ would be easy, but when I'm lying on my deathbed I'll definitely regret the time I've wasted separating Rap music's thumbs up from its thumbs down. Fortunately, the pain and strain of listening to audio dung is eased when I come across Certified Gems™ like these songs. That's the beautiful thing about Bona Fide Jams™ - anybody can get 'em and anybody can give 'em to ya, they're like Secret Santa.

Away for the weekend but next week I’ll hook up a link

Great list as always. Don’t think I’ve seen you post anything this year about Doechii, any other songs by her you liked?

That Ezale song is every bit as accurate as its namesake.

Also, cheers to you for another year of choons I wouldn't have heard otherwise. 🍻

That's the only one of hers I've heard that I liked.

Never would’ve pegged you as a Rap Ferreira listener. Thanks for the great work throughout the years

Truly intrigued and delighted that Tinashe seems to be doing well as an independent artist. Some of the songs are too “artsy” for me but like Ty$ and Jeremih when the radio ready and more idiosyncratic styles mesh she’s at her best.

Got a collection of escape routes, run my brain like a safe house.

I've been patiently waiting for this list after checking some top 40s by the big publications and being thoroughly underwhelmed—whereas a dedicated (mostly) rap specialist like yourself I can rely on.

Your comments re sifting through the shinola resonates with me, I just don't have that capacity or inclination anymore with most music including rap. In fact I've almost given up on rap music other than for some new york drill (and i'm kinda bored of that, too, or was until you posted that 'save me' tune).

You're at the coalface so I can keep my feet toasty, and mad respek for that.

I kinda like Hate The Real by 41 too. Weird song tho - sometimes it really hits for me and sometimes it only semi-hits. But those times it does hit are 👌

Lattos album got a couple of good songs the rest is mostly just generic auto tune dribble.
