So nearly 7 years after Devin's last great CD it comes as an utter shock that One For The Road has a grip of good songs. There are no surprises to be found on the album itself since this a new Devin The Dude project not Aceyalone's latest full length of Mister SeƱor Love Daddy impersonations over Mark Ronson-lite cod-Funk, but there's nowt wrong with a rapper bringing out their standard array of party tricks for the umpteenth time as long as there's some good tunes involved. I'm Just Gettin' Blowed and Probably Shouldn't Have are the most quintessentially Devin jams with the latter featuring excellent usage of the word shithouse in its chorus, but it's when Devin forgoes rhyming to get his Anythang on again with Hear The Sound and Still Waitin' that the album done takes flight, especially when he coos sweet nothings to some lass he's been itching to blap on the former :

IMHO this is what would happen if Devin were to sing a saucy letter from a 70s copy of Playboy over the sort of lush Country-Rap & Bullshit production that was Mike Dean's bread 'n' butter throughout the noughties before KanYe came callin'.

I quite liked Devin's last album but then I do smoke weed.
Haven't checked this one yet, but
To Tha X-treme is one of the greatest albums of the last 15 years, so I'm hopeful.
Thought I was the only person who favoured To Tha X-Treme as his best album.
You, You, Me, I think Drww Huge? and anyone else who wasnt blown away by the kinda phoned in Dre beat/Nas verse. Xzibit just loses you points.
X-Tremes his most experimental onetoo as far as smoke weed drink brew rap can be experimental, or diverse at least. Zeldar, Doobie Ashtray and R&B are his best gimmick/concept songs though.
Man Im amped to listen to this new one now.
You can stream it here. It's not THAT good, but it's a marked improvement on his past few albums.
I prefer The Dude to Just Tryin' Ta Live too for the Xzibit reason and because Yo' Ho got cut from the retail CD.
Go Fight Some Other Crime followed by Briarpatch. 11 mins of pure joy.
It's hard to pick a favorite Devin album I'd say it's a toss up between The Dude and To Tha X-Treme
just tryin to live >>> imo
the rest is revisionism
The internet is stupid because it won't let me post.
To Tha X-Treme is my favorite Devin album as well. Devin said, in an interview, that he is to this day unable to listen to the album because he was so depressed when he recorded it. Explains the emotional response that the record evokes relative to his other work.
