101 great Rap album tracks and mixtape joints of the noughties

So this was originally intended to swiftly follow my best Rap singles of 1999 - 2009 list back in early 2010, but good gracious, even though that singles post was bodacious, hyperlinking the bloody thing was so arduous that attempting another best-of-the-decade list required far too much patience. Two years on and an idle Rap blogger can now pay a pittance to Indian gentlemen for HTML services, so here's another mammoth noughties Rap tabulation to inflict my tastes on t'internet. Same rules as the singles post apply, although this one is restricted to the slightly different timespan of 2000 - 2010 and isn't presented in any kind of hierarchy of preference. Lists of fury, yawl.

my messy marv pick would have been IM TOO THOWED http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEYmxiV4Xak

Looking forward to wading through the list. FWIW, B-Legit's "So International" was actually a single.

Richard Tre Mane said...

It's not on Discogs, Matthew. Do you own it?

Really upsets me that I couldn't find a place for Webbie or Foxx solo cuts but I had so much B.R on the list already.

Matthew said...

Yeah, I've got a couple of them. It was a promo-only white label with "One Dame" and "Bag Habit" on the flip.

I'm not surprised it's not on discogs but I am surprised I can't find it on http://www.rapmusicguide.com/. Their discography of Bay releases is pretty insane.

If there's anyone I trust about about secrete & rare white label promos of B-Legit cuts, it's you, Matthew, so I defer to your higher knowledge on this matter. I can't even switch it for my other favourite B-Legit cut of the noughties Whatcha Talkin' because that was a single too. :(

Oh well, at least I can have a Webbie song now.

don't suppose there's a download link for this stuff?

i think i'd switch 'gotta have it' in for 'flatline' and i'm surprised there's no love for either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzODMXKxNcU city of gods or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG2YK40qm-o ski mask way. i know he's a completely unfashionable (and unprolific) producer to stan for but i fuck w/ disco d

Richard Tre Mane said...

I love me some Disco D too.

Ski Way Mask is amazing, but it was a single; City Of Gods is also amazing, but loses points because he just raps a bunch of lyrics from Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em during the last verse.

bit harsh calling Disco D 'unprolific' given that he died 5 years ago and was only 27

Richard Tre Mane said...

Well, he did only produce about 5 rap songs in amongst his bass stuff and his work for Brittany's ex.

INSANE LIST

Thanks. I know a little something about Bay raps on vinyl but r8r and the rest of the rapmusicguide guys could son me on Bay releases all damn day.

Oh, I just noticed Bailey's "Fuck Yo Couch" is on the list, too. That also was a single.

Richard Tre Mane said...

Oh ffs. Can we keep that one as our little secrete, Matthew? I can't bear to remove Fuck Yo' Couch from the list.
