(From Do It Mega single; 2025)
Discovered via Crimedawgbylaw's best Milwaukeee Rap songs of summer 2025 list. Rappers seldom ever make tribute songs to DJs nowadays, so DJs have to get on the mic to feel themselves in song form instead. It's REAL HIP-HOP ™ in a way that's beyond comprehension to 90s Boom-Bap plebs, and charmingly wholesome in the exact same way that Hey DJ by World's Famous Supreme Team was.
LL Cool J - Go Cut Creator Go (1987)
Eric B. & Rakim - Eric B. Is President (1986)
Run-D.M.C - Jam-Master Jay (1984)
Marley Marl ft. MC Shan - Marley Marl Scratch (1985)
Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Jeff Waz On The Beat Box (1989)

Hey DJ is one of those perfect songs, imo. Never get tired of hearing it.
Absolutely.
On the subject of DJ's, who's considered the first (mixtape) DJ in rap? Kid Capri? DURO & Clue? Doo Wop and friends?
DJ Brucie B used to record some of his club nights at The Rooftop and then sell them on cassette, so he could be considered the first, I guess? This is a good one from 1985.
After that, comes Kid Capri in the late 80s. His tapes set the template for what Hip-Hop mixtapes would become.
World's Famous is also a perfect song IMHO.
Late pass but I've just come across some BR-hate-jam that I think might be up your alley:

"Bitch, I hope you crash headfirst into a bus full of retarded children" had me in shambles... but it's actually one of the nicer lines in there :=)
Always felt this trend died out with EPMD & DJ Scratch - ‘Funky Piano’ and ‘Bring it Back’. Rhyming about your DJ while he cuts and scratches really shouldn’t be another thing consigned to the ‘Things Grandad Tells You Were Better In His Day’ Bin.
I'm a big fan of that song. Never knew they'd got a shot a video for it tho.
I thoroughly concur.
Without a doubt.
Political Peak - clown .. what d'ja think?
