Rawkus revenge

Hilarious things about Rawkus # 249 : a couple of unassuming 12" cuts by Fashion from The Beatnuts' weed carrier and an Artifacts side-project got more play on Hot 97 than many of the later records by more notable artists which the-house-that-Rupert-built pushed heavily to radio. Thought I'd throw the 12" rips of My Crown by Black Attack and Brick City Kids by Brick City Kids up today since they sound so much better without Evil Dee's cacophonous bellowing/intrusive scratching on them, and they go way harder than most of those later records by more notable artists which the-house-that-Rupert-built pushed heavily to radio :

Black Attack - My Crown
(From My Crown/Correct Technique 12"; 1997)

Brick City Kids - Brick City Kids
(From Brick City Kids/What What 12"; 1997)

A lot of the pre-Hi-Tek Rawkus 12"s are great, before everything became Reflection Eternalized.

That Mr Man character out-rapped Mos Def & Kweli on Fortified Live.

Oh i dont think Ive heard this Black Attack one, or its been ages. Nice. Dunno why Missin Linx got so up in arms about Next Episode though, since its far more likely Dre heard this.

It wasnt a single like but theres fewer degrees of seperation

The Cormega song(and a bunch of others) on the Hi-Tek album was a beast, idgaf.

Didn't Hi-Tek do that Keep Goin' joint by Kool G. Rap, Devin & Snoop too? That song was THEE shit.

Oh man thats good. If more capable rappers had got all those great Mighty Mi & Hi-Tek beats, later period Rawkus mightve actually turned a profit.

Man, I almost had a heart attack. I misread your post and thought you said Fashion was the Beatnuts weed carrier. He's too damn cool for that.

I have Fortified Live ranked like this,

Mos>>Mr. Man>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kweli.

I would never want to get outclassed on my debut release like that. Not saying he should have A-sided 2000 Seasons, but maybe go back and record something where you come off a little doper.

Always liked that Brick City Kids track.

EVIL DEE IS ON THE MIX, CMON KICK IT!

Kweli being surplus to requirements on his own debut single would be a good synopsis of his entire career.

You guys know Verbal Attack by Black Attack w/ Problemz & Al Tariq, right? Best song that whole crew ever did.

Verbal Attack is the one!
Correct Records had this and the Al Tariq album, full of good Beatnuts beats.

Best song Fash' ever did under the Al Tariq moniker was Black Nasty Muthafucka from 2000. Produced by da white Jesus himself Necwo.

The B-Side from the Brick City Kids 12" is even better:
