All time great post. How do you remember where you found all these? Lol

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

My brain can remember who put me onto Mysonne's In Jail 12 years ago, yet I forgot to pick up a jar of kimchi at the supermarket before 🤦‍♂️

This blog has put me onto a bunch of music (not just rap) over the years that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

Cheers, Marty! 🍻

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

If I do a non-Rap list, 50% of it would be movie scores you've put me onto.

Ben said...

This blog made me a fan of Fifth Harmony😂

Anonymous said...

Really want to get into Messy Marv’s music. Love the song up above and “B” but don’t know where to start.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Ben, and Spice!

Anonymous, Still Explosive and What You Know About Me Part 2 are good albums to start with.

Yohan said...

Which blog put you onto Nef by the way?

Also could've swore Cross Me had a video but I can't find it. Did I misremember or was it taken down?

Re: Nef. I first heard Big Tymin" in a shop when I was on holiday in San Francisco. Asked the guy playing it what it was and he told me it was a new song which was blowing up.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Hotbox, ah the days of good French Montana singles.

"Glitch in the matrix, slid with the waitress"

Love(d) all the blogs the you mentioned.

Still sooo many song compilations from Chicken N Kalinka, 100GOMW and The Hotbox (zzz) to check out (one day).
I've been filling up my external HD from all those blogs.

My online music started with Chalie Boy's Bumpa Grill and all the 'jerkin' songs on digitaldripped.

And Martorialist put me on 70th St. Carlos and all the other Baton Rouge artists. I visit this blog every day.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Johnny, you get props for schoolin' me that Mac Mall's My Opinion was inspired by an 80s Mad Professor song 👍

David said...

I would have to dig in the crates to figure out what martorialist record I discovered through you that stayed w me longest bc I cant remember where I find most things, but I def kept "Street Girl" in steady rotation after you and I conversated about our fav 80s beats

Daps said...

Forgot about some of these blogs. Ichlugebullets!
Favourite track I’ve discovered through your incredible blog is ‘Gangster’ by Agallah. Can’t believe it took me so long to discover a track that was so perfectly Daps.

Daps said...

Forgot about Nef The Pharoah ‘Come Pick Me Up’ too. I’ve discovered countless tracks on here but those two really stuck with me.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Daps, did you know that you can get Gangster on the B-side of this 12"?

David, incredible song. But I know the definitive Drake favourite you discovered via this place: Mac Dre's Off The Rictor.

Daps said...

Just ordered that 12”

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

2002 Agallah 12" on a Bork label with Gangster on the B-side >>>>>>>>> every overpriced boutique raer vinylz release ever.

My favorite song discovery via blog is Grip Plyaz - Stuntman Mike via Martorialist. 2nd favorite is The Pack - Titties via Nation of Thizzlam. Also I 2nd Ben's comment about Fifth Harmony! This post is A++.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

2023 needs a new Fifth Harmony equivalent.

Foxx - I Wonder, Lil Chris - Peter Pan, Mouse - Been A G Thang and the whole A-Wax run leading up to Pullin Strings!!

Ah man, I’m not the nostalgia type but I have to say that the blog era definitely opened my eyes to a lot of different stuff and shaped the way I listen to rap music nowadays. I’d been listening to rap since 97 and was mostly a boom bap conservative type, thinking that the likes of Immortal Technique and Necro were great underground rappers 😅 but coming across Cocaine Blunts and then almost all of the other blogs mentioned around 2006-7 introduced me properly to southern and regional rap, made me revisit stuff I was current to but paid no mind, and got me into so much music, I’m really grateful for it all.

Still have so many of all those comps on my drives, the Touring The States comps from Philaphlava, all the CNK stuff, Cocaine Blunts (Scarface, Z-Ro, Trenton Rap, Alter California Etc.) the Hotbox ones, yours obviously (AZ, Mac Dre, Black Rob….) and all the loosies and much more.

I’ll post more song I’ve gotten into from different blogs when I’m on my computer and not on the phone, but a couple ones I’ll forever associate with your blog are Baserock Babies (goat TM anthem), If God Was Mic, Raining Guns & Shanks etc… I could probably compile my own 25 best of Martorialist tracks haha.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

I'd agree that Bassrock Babies is the G.O.A.T Martorialist anthem. The YouTube thumbnail even comes up under the Google image search for Martorialist 😎

Daps said...

'West Coast' by Mic Terror just popped in my head so that's another one you've introduced me too. Enjoyed all his stuff you posted on here.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Good song. That bassline sounds deadly in the car.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Trill ENT never releasing the original Rubbin' On My Head is a reminder that the label never really understood Mouse as a solo artist and messed his career up from the jump 🙁

Smell Rell said...

I have found lots of Mac Dre slaps on here.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

It seems like every year I come across an old Dre song I've missed or overlooked.

Andrew Barber said...

Marty is really a (almost) Day One fan of Mic T. That King of the New School tape was dope. Fun times.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Yeah, I heard Juke Them Hoes and Cold As Hell on MySpace and then came across FSD when I was looking for the MP3s 🍻

I should probably have summat from Nah Right in this list, so I'm gonna pick Heart & Soul by Red Cafe & Pete Rock AKA the one good Red Cafe song.

Fred said...

Life Of A Yungsta is another example of Trill ENT dropping the ball with a mixtape which REALLY should have been an album. Also see: Boosie's Bad Azz Vol. 2 and Mouse's Millionaire Dreamzzz.

Say What I Wanna Say is definitely a Martorialist National Anthem too. R.I.P Phat.

Yohan said...

^ Apologies for the long comment, kept typing away never realizing that list grew out of control.

Life Of A Yungsta has been my standard working out tape this year. It could do with a slight trimming but overall it's great. The way Phat harmonizes with the beat is a thing of beauty.

Kelvin Mack10zie said...

Long song lists are good... especially if I inspired them 😄

d said...

Ah man all emosh @ being included 😭

Wouldnt even know where to start w songs I got put onto here, basically this blogs been my main source for years n prob the most closely aligned w my taste(s/o to somanyshrimp on that account too) n sensibilities. Like wearing shorts in winter is to metal, questionable lolz are to rap music n this is genuinely the only place that keeps that old internet fuckery alive in the dry shite times were in. Where else you gonna get sunday sport puns n best of zmoney rars in the same place? Marty youre a legend bb, in a sea of barrocloughs n orrible arrises theres only one norman stanley fletcher.

Gonna have to run through all the zippyshare records n tapes comps n playlists I have n come up w some lists, wish I had my older hd handy, def mostly hotbox on my current pc lol. Think you covered all my fav blogs over the yrs here? Definitely a fitting tribute salute

I wish I could remember the name of the Bork blog which put me onto Hustle Til I Die by Jiggs & Cheeks. It was on a zippy compilation he made which also contained Vontel & Roger Troutman's 4 My Homies.
