Since Eatem is back after a year or so in prison, here's a re-up of my Eatem's Greatest Pressure playlist with a few other songs he dropped since I first put the playlist together in 2022. You don't rework, you don't Eat. For doz who've slept: Eatem looks like Percy Tragedy and makes fun rowdy southern anthems in the vein of Treal Lee & Prince Rick. He fits into the current Rap game as Baton Rouge's equivalent of Duke Deuce, but with different angles to his bangers like triangle isosceles. I hope he hasn't lost his touch and continues to make the sort of B.R Rap I love. Born alone, dine alone.

Well, er... boom-batter, DSPs don't matter, sorry homeboy, my playlists is gettin' fatter. Here's a buncha Rap songs which I can't currently find on DSPs in my region. All are Martorialist classics you're probably familiar with already, but this blog is my ersatz radio show I use to inflict my taste on yous lot. I choose songs, flooze songs, bang songs, bruise songs, throw 'em in a playlist and then I excuse songs. I coulda/woulda gone deeper with the 1980s selections, but I wanted to put the playlist in chronological order and Positive K's Step Up Front had to be track number one because that's the song which inspired me to put the playlist together. From 2025 back to 1988, a supreme database, listen to it radiate.

Back in the 90s when I got a CD player with a programming function, one of the first albums I re-sequenced to my satisfaction was Eric B. & Rakim's Follow The Leader. Haven't you ever heard of an unofficial tracklist murderer? This was a death penalty that I'm servin' up. Follow The Leader has the greatest opening 3 song run in the history of Rap music which means that the album's other highlights tend to be get forgotten. So, what I did was whittle the album down to 8 songs, reorder the tracklist so it starts with the 4 killer songs from the latter half of the album and ends with the aforementioned greatest opening 3 song run in the history of Rap music. Betwixt both sets of songs is the instrumental Just A Beat which functions as a breather/bridge between Rakim raining down his magic. And there we have it, Follow The Leader reduced and rearranged into a sequence which makes far more sense to me as an album. This version of the album is official Martorialist canon because I put it on one side of a 90 minute cassette tape which lived rent free in my Walkman for most of the 90s.

If I were feelin' adventurous, I might end the album with Eric B. Never Scared. By adventurous I obviously mean masochistic.

Bavgate started out as one part of the duo Steady Mobb'n in 1991, went solo in the early 2000s and eventually found his final form in 2005 as Thizz Nation's sorta-equivalent of Kokane. Take a soak in Bav's music with this playlist of my favourite songs of his from the Thizz era. Motherf**kers mad because the 'net is jockin' and motherf**kers mad because my posts is knockin'. Keep It Gangsta is a minor classic which should have been a major choon - a two steppin' tune for polar bears and squares alike.

Poland Street Is Watching Part 2

This old advert is a timely reminder that the defunct Mr Bongo record shop had a stacked section of 2nd hand 80s Rap and Electro where I'd find 12" singles I'd never come across in any record shops up north. The thing about the REAL HIP-HOP™ backpack brigade who frequented Bongos was that, although they'd walk around in fat lace Adidas Superstars and Puma States, very few of them had any interest in Rap music made before 1987. Fortunately, this was good news for me because it meant ur boi could hit those used record racks like the Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil and bag loadsa early to mid 80s Rap and Electro 12"s. Thus, here's a playlist of the best early 80s choonz I picked up in Bongos. All 12 songs hail from 1983 to 1985, which was a transitioal period for Rap. An era now lost in time like peeing in the sea, but which is one of my favourite stages in Rap's evolution.

Poor old Craig Mack. He's viewed as a Couple Of Hits Wonder even though he was a consistently good singles artist who had a blackbelt in Rap Hands. Ever since he first came out as MC EZ in 1988 he had an unfortunate habit of jinxing himself on record with lyrics promising future career endeavours which never materialised. But that's what gives Mack's music a bittersweet edge which never fails to pull my heart strings like guitars down in Spain. Mack's career deserved better but he was Mr. Reverse Words I Manifest who couldn't stop hexing himself on wax. Me, I prefer Mack's remake of Please Listen To My Demo to the EPMD original; Erick & Parrish kept it philosophical like the Greek man Plato, but Mack made it spiritual/educational like the German word Bildungsroman. So, here's a seven song playlist of Mack's best non-Bad Boy legit jams which would have included Jockin' My Style if Audiomack hadn't cockblocked it. D.O.O.M Entertainment was a Yonkers record label which dropped a string of 12" singles and a compilation album between 1996 and 1998. Their roster included rappers you've probably never heard of like Phil Blunts and Black Jesus, and they also released killer deep cuts by rappers you've probably heard of like Sporty Thievz and Genovese. Here's a Quinary Of Quality playlist featuring the label's 5 best choonz as according to me. True story: On The Attack is my G.O.A.T minor Tunnel Banger™ which shoulda been a major Tunnel Banger™. Nef The Pharaoh is a very inconsistent artist, but when he gets it right he's one of the more unique NorCal rappers of the last decade. Here at The Martorialist we call his sound Thizz Khalifa because he mixes early 2000s Mac Dre with early 2010s Wiz Khalifa. R.I.P to the G.O.A.T of horn samples and the only Rap producer to ever make instrumental Hip-Hop records worth buying. New Jersey, hold ya hearts. If Lakim Shabazz sacrifices Joe Budden to a volcano can the world get Mark The 45 King back? True story: 45 King beats turn me into Jordans, I always keep my tongue out. Here's hoping EttelThun will come through with the ultimate 45 King obituary post complete with a playlist which takes in Mark's entire recording career from 1987 to the early 2000s. Until then, here's a Quinary Of Quality playlist of my top five 45 King deep cuts. We've got two B-sides from the late 1980s including an insane instrumental which nobody ever rhymed over, and three songs from his 1999 promo album featuring his artists Big Pooh & Lady Champain and the Kiiiiiiiid Capriiiiiiii.
