Welcome back to Kansas City's Young Devi D, a 2010s regional mob musik favourite of me, Rey, David Drake and Thomas 100 Grand On My Wrist. I almost unfollowed Devi on Instagram a few years back after he posted a story of himself in his prison cell listening to That Canadian Nonce™. Glad I didn't smash the unfollow button tho because I probably wouldn't have known he's out and right back like he left his child witcha. Hopefully he manages to stay outta prison this time because he was really onto something during his last bout of freedom in 2015 and 2016.

Yung Cat's always good for one slap per year. Not sure that taunting the people who shot you is a particularly good idea, but according to internet gossip Cat's recent shooting was just another one of his staged publicity stunts. Alas, the video of him pretending to sign a record deal has long since been deleted but this fugazi classic from Killa City's H&M store remains:


Look closely and you'll notice that the guy Cat "robs" in the H&M video is the very same guy playing guitar with the gun in the Who Shot Me video lolz.

Via Yohan, a Yung Cat single I'd missed. Cat's always good for one slap a year, particularly when the aforementioned slap finds him colouring between Fat Tone's lines in the style of Husalah's hyperactive country-cousin from Kansas City.

Here starts the petition for a deluxe CD reissue of Fat Tone's Tha Stick Up Kid album with liner notes from C-Bo, Yung Cat, and whoever runs the OnlyNKillaCity YouTube channel.

Just when I'd given up on Yung Cat he slides through with a big, hooky Kansas City slapper. The tone is Husalah's twitchy country cousin, but the words are pure Fat Tone foulness. What a pity K.C's half man/half moggy waited to drop this one when Britain's skies have turned the same grim shade of grey as Pep Guardiola's "lucky" hooded cardigan (shoulda kept that thing another season, m8.)

Pleasantly surprised that the remix of Yo Gotti & Nicki Minaj's Freaky Tales-inspired single features the highly unlikely presences of Kansas City's Rich The Factor & his semi-protégé The Popper. Far more impressed, however, by Rich & Popper's own current single Aristocrat - the mannishness is brand new, the mobbishness is retro, the scritch is scratched if you're just after some no-frills K.C slap.

If Not Guilty was the definitive Fat Tone, then Ima Getcha was the next best thing. Mouth on Tony, rapping like he was lasooing words with his tongue. Champagne foulness, exhibition mob musik.

Unfortunately, that line in the 3rd verse about a car gettin' flipped by gunfire is what led to the #FakeNews in California that Fat Tone was subliminally bragging about killing Mac Dre on record, even though Ima Getcha was released a good year or so before that night on the Route 71 highway.

Bit ironic that the guy initially rumoured to be responsible for Mac Dre's death should have his own equivalent of Punk Police because Not Guilty is an autobiographical joint about Tone beating a double-murder case, and the importance of hiring a good lawyer when the cops come running. File this one under ‘songs Max B really shoulda listened to before he decided to let Gerald Saluti defend him.’

Fat Tone AKA the Kansas City rapper who was murdered in revenge for killing Mac Dre even though he evidently had nowt to do with Dre's death. Here's a shortened edit of my favourite Tone song via Jack The Snipper, a throwback to the days when rappers would occasionally get their girlfriend stolen instead of stealin' everyone else's girlfriends. Why an edit? Because the proper version outstays its welcome with an outro phonecall which drags on for a minute and a half. New rule: if you ain't Snoop on the Deeez Nuuuts intro or Mac Dre circa Back N Da Hood, keep all phonecalls outta rap songs.
