Generic list post: February 2024

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when Vince Staples' TV show sounds even less appealing to me than Vince Staples' music. One of the most shameless trend-hoppers of the past decade who somehow gets a pass because ppl think he's funny on Twitter. A true One Song Wonder, Staples is just a Tumblr-Rap Tyga for dry-tasted randos who only listen to Album Orientated Artistes™.

Big Moe ft. Mike Wilson - Leave Drank Alone (2003)
Saigon - Stocking Cap (video) (2004/2024)
Homeboy Sandman - $ (video) (2022/2024)
AyooLii ft. Myaap - On My Daddy (2023)
Ezale - Do It All Night (2024)
Mac God Dbo - A Whole Brick (2024)
Haircut 100 - Nobody's Fool (1982)
Sharon Forrester - Love Inside (1994)

Other notables: got nostalgic for 1990 by reminiscing over Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Faith No More; Johnboxxx dropped a post about his fave party breaks choonz; Party Sparty dropped a list of his fave Riz Ortolani movie scores.

  5. I love the production on Back Outside, it lives in my head. Sometimes a great beat and a decent hook is enough for me.

  8. I was probably a bit harsh on Tyga comparing him to Staples.

  12. lmao this does really sound like a summertime '06 beat... the jabbawockez in the music video and wayne in an odd future hoodie 😭😭😭

  13. That Sharon Forrester 12" was a big rave spin back then but it was Da Intalex remix that got most played. The tatty flimsy sleeve with crap graphics it came in is burned on my brain from dodgy house parties with sticky carpets.

I have a really nice mellow lovers album from her just called Sharon.

  14. @yohan That Back Outside beat is fire, Anycia is not great though. Her pal Latto outshines her on her own song.

Would love to hear the old Guwop on that beat.

  15. I'll check that Sharon Forrester album out. Omly Reggae jam of her I know is her cover of Love Don't Live Here Anymore.

  16. @Bobby Deee agreed. Anycia's voice is good enough to not get in the way of the production for me and Latto has a few decent lines.

My first reaction to the beat was that it was modelled after Shawty Lo's "Dey Know".
