Oh ok, so these are the two lads who ghostwrite and produce for the Road-Rap pensioners Pete & Bas (apparently they're their grandads.) Since the faces been revealed, game got real indeed: mans go back-and-forth like Neville & Carragher. Much like Giggs' Monsta Man, this is that old robotic futuristic Jet Set Willy crazy shit. 90% of British Rap is only good when it embraces the fact that it is, essentially, novelty music. LD and Youngs Teflon could never!

ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of superb UK rap out there. It's just not necessarily worth dredging through all the raw sewage to find it. https://plague11.bandcamp.com/album/def-cult
Every rap song with more than one rapper should involve trading bars. Fuck this boring "you do one verse, I do one verse" shit.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you posted that and not Biggie's weird freestyle over Cee cuttin' up Casual's I Didn't Mean To.
ReplyDeleteNordy, I think I'd have to agree with that. Rappers work up some chemistry on the song that way.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated but Lil Phat just put out a new project with Mouse feature no clue how it is haven’t heard yet.
ReplyDeleteO rly 👀
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a mixture of new and old songs. Cheers.
"I got the bag like Tinky Winky"
ReplyDeleteLmao
Can definitely see the resemblance between Nine and Pete.
Looking like 2 different points on the same timeline.
ReplyDeleteI get nothing but head / Baby call me Beavis 😂👌🏼
ReplyDeleteAlso plussing the trading bars ability, I think some of the last great bar trading I’ve heard was on various songs between FMB DZ and Sada Baby, if anyone has more recent exemples plz send them this way.
Some of the Rio Da Yung O.G & RMC Mike songs?
ReplyDeletei love trading bars so much fr
ReplyDeleteidk how i feel about the song but weren't kendrick and keem doing it on "the hillbillies"?
also logistically i do not understand how trading bars happens, do they pass the notebook back and forth or... get in the booth together?
busdrive & nocando with one of my all time favs https://youtu.be/1FEKIbGXWCk?si=lyomLUZjt1gaisO1
Re: how trading bars happens, probably a bit of both?
ReplyDeleteNot heard that Kendrick & Keem song so I dunno.
"I get nothing but head / Baby call me Beavis 😂👌🏼"
ReplyDelete"ask Beavis, I get nothin' Butthead" (Big L, 1998)
Stepped inside and I taught her Swedish
ReplyDeleteeither option is extremely cute lol
ReplyDelete"she gave me beavis, no but head"

One 4 the Britz: get Top like Gaz.
ReplyDeleteStill not convinced Pete & Bas arent dubbed.
ReplyDeleteStyles P & Jada have talked about it a few times, it sounds rly hard the way they describe it lol I dunno if everyone would be capable, especially when youre breaking it down to a couple words back n forth. They record seperately, leaving gaps, which sounds unnecesarly difficult but surely Run DMC etc just got in the booth together? Could be why Ghost n Rae only rly did it on Mobb Deep Back At You and also why its the hardest theyve ever sounded.
Bring back trading bars + dj scratching somewhere other than the hook n something other than rap vocals! - be more code money/juicy j, be less primo/interchangeable boom bap revival square
It's definitely Pete & Bas rhyming on their songs.
ReplyDeleteEgyptian Lover should be hired to do scratches on everybody's songs.
This is so UGHH, but Binary Star - Masters of the Universe has one my favorite back and forths

ReplyDeleteHoly shit that Pecan Pie track is excellent. Any other similar songs you know of (Nine and Dex or other artists)?
ReplyDeleteNine & Dex dropped another song last week but it's nowhere near as good as Pecan Pie IMHO. Those are the only 2 songs they have currently.
