(From Paul Hardcastle album; 1985)
Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when muggins here found out that Paul Hardcastle has Legit Choonz™ other than Rainforest, 19 and The Wizard. I was in it to win it, but general consensus fronted and said "sorry, Marty, he's a Bob James type 3 song wonder."

Sexyy Red - Shake Yo Dreads (2023)
TREE - I Usually Say How I Feel (2023)

ReplyDeleteNeed a Martorialist’s Andre Nickatina deep cuts list.
ReplyDeleteTbh, I'm not familiar enough with his catalog to do a deep cuts. But I fux with these albums:
ReplyDeleteThe New Jim Jones
I Hate You With A Passion
Daiquiri Factory: Cocaine Raps, Vol 2
Conversation With A Devil
Unrelated eyebrow raiser: Steph Curry will produce a Mac Dre documentary: https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/mac-dre-documentary-stephen-curry-1235427714/
ReplyDeleteNot sure what this documentary will add to his legacy, but I'm always game for more Mac Dre.
Hmmmm. Bet it'll feature Drake, who is the absolute last person on Earth I wanna see in a Mac Dre documentary (or ANY other documentary.)
ReplyDeleteOne of my fav songs with a Paul Hardcastle sample https://youtu.be/Ni2j_DROHTA?si=3LpqhHEo9apl3XJj
ReplyDeleteDamn, that one is sick.
ReplyDelete@Spartan:
ReplyDeleteIf you’re looking for it, Chicken N Kalinka has a solid Nickatina comp for you:

Including all the Filmoe Coleman Bands track in the archive.
One of my fave Nickatina album is the aforementioned Conversation With A Devil -Cocaine Rap 3, which unfortunately sells for upwards of 150€ on Discogs so I’ll probably never own a copy of it, but it has at least 5 of Nickatina’s best songs on it: the storytellings of The God & The Stripper and Train With No Love, the dramatic Soul Of A Coke Dealer, the hyped out Ayo For Yayo and Dice Of Life, and then the whole album is great front to back anyway. And of course I Hate You With A Passion is insane too, when the synth of Situation Critical hits then everything goes.
Aside from those album Marty named Raven In My Eyes and Tears Of A Clown have a load of great songs on it too: Crack Raider Razor, My Rap World, I’m A Pisces etc…
Forgot which albums it’s on but that one I Saw A Gangsta Cry song with San Quinn is great too.
I only know I Saw A Gangsta Cry from one of his best of compilations, but that is absolutely one of his best songs.
ReplyDeleteTitle track might be my fave song on Conversation With A Devil. In fact, there's no better rap song to bust your best Jim Jump walk to

@ Fred: Cheers for the link! 🍻

ReplyDeleteGranted, that's a slap. But you're forgetting some Fik classics from the intervening years. Hmmm. I might do a post.
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, what were the three Bob James songs you were referring to? Guessing Nautilus, Night on Bald Mountain and possibly Westchester Lady. Got a soft spot for Farandole because of the killer horns, but it’s quickly ruined by that awful flute on it.
ReplyDeleteD’oh! Forgot about Take Me to the Mardi Gras.
ReplyDeleteNautilus, Take Me To The Mardi Gras and Night On Bald Mountain. Quite like the Taxi theme too, mind.
