Other reading/listening: I put together a Day Day Sustaaa Quinary Of Quality playlist; Mosi Reeves wrote a killer article on 80s Bay Area Rap; EttelThun did a mix of Harry Allen's 12 Underacknowledged Hip-Hop Cuts; Chicken N Kalinka put together a 4 part best of Slip-N-Slide Records compilation; Juiceboxxx took us back in time with his favourite concert clips from 2003; The Spartorialist paid tribute to movie opinionz from the Baby Blue.
PS: that Drama Big Ball single linked up top is my second favourite late pass discovery song of 2023 so far. It's like Mystikal recorded a Country Grammar-era Nelly type single. Cheers to Chicken-N-Kalinka's aforementioned best of Slip-N-Slide Records compilation for that one.
That Curren$y & JD EP was better than I thought it’d be
ReplyDeleteIs that Suga Free Kokane album worth listening to?
ReplyDeleteNothing off the new Mac J?
ReplyDeleteThat Rae Sremmurd had a bunch of pretty good tracks but I agree that Flaunt It/Cheap is the best of the bunch. Also really like that Curren$y x Jermaine Dupri EP.
ReplyDeleteDove in Robbie Unkut's "Past the Margin" this month - especially the stories about the shady dealings at Sugar Hill Records told by their in-house band members were excellent.
Peace to Past The Margins.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, yeah the Suga Free & Kokane got some jams for those of us who've been fiendin' since Snoop's Bring It On.
Ray, the Mac J sucked. Someone needs to tell him to lay off the Auto-Tune.
I really ought to check out Dance Craze whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteIt contains the best live footage I've ever seen of The Specials.
ReplyDeleteCome on you Hammers tonight.
ReplyDeletethat Drama song does bang. seems very much inspired/biting the beat from Trick Daddy's "I'm A Thug" which came out earlier that same year, same label, different producers tho
ReplyDeleteTrue, that beat definitely has a big I'm A Thug type bounce to it.
ReplyDeleteBut his flow is pure Mystikal and the hook is totally Nelly IMHO.
