Generic list post: can you believe 2010 was a decade ago?

Yes I can/no I can't because 2010 simultaneously feels like a lifetime ago and five minutes ago. Very much an annus horribilis for anthems because some of the worst big Rap choonz of the decade dropped in 2010: Eminem's Not Afraid, Drake's Over, Young Money's Bedrock, Nicki Minaj's Super Bass, and KanYe West's Power. Tbf, 2010 wasn't quite as much of a lost wasteland as 2009 but so many of the songs in this list deserved better fates. Thus, 30 faves from the year of Gudda Gudda's Grocery Bag™ punchline:

Young Dro - Freeze Me
Beeda Weeda - Bassrock Babies (O.G version)
Rick Ross ft. Styles P - B.M.F (Blowin' Money Fast)
Sean Price - Figure Four
Lil' Boosie - Top To The Bottom
Webbie - My People
Mouse On Tha Track ft. Trill Fam - Turn The Beat Up
Curren$y - Michael Knight
Wiz Khalifa - The Kid Frankie
Dru Down ft. The Jacka - Hello Hello Hello
A-Mafia - 1000 Grams
Lil B - Good Morning
Young L - Young L-E-N
Grip Plyaz ft. Slick Pulla - Stuntman Mike
Roc Marciano - Ridin' Around
E-40 ft. Clyde Carson & Husalah - Lightweight Jammin'
Gucci Mane - Normal
Waka Flocka Flame ft. Kebo Gotti - Grove St. Party
$tarlito - Alright
AZ - The Calm
NhT Boyz ft. The Jacka - U Ain't From
YG ft. Ty Dolla $ign - Toot It And Boot It
HBK Gang - She Ready
Travis Porter - Make It Rain
French Montana ft. Curren$y - So High
Young Jeezy ft. Yo Gotti - All White Everything
Keak Da Sneak & DJ Fresh - Maxi Pads
Max Minelli - Louisiana Sky

Mic Terror - My Bitch Tonight

Bonus beats: nostalgia lists for 1990 and 2000.

  2. 2010 is the smallest of my Hip Hop folders by a considerable distance. think it was so bad I was mostly listening to House instead.

    Standouts for me
Currensy & Fiend - Flying Iron
some tracks of Ghostface 'Apollo Kids'
Fallacy - Graceful In Death EP (which is mostly tracks recorded around '06ish)
Black Einstein ft Kyza & Mystro - Steppin
Smoke DZA - Early Days Of George
Jim Jones & Juelz - Harlem Forever (aka the only autotune song) I can stand

  3. You know Harlem Forever is a remake of a Drake posse cut featuring Eminem, right? 😄

    1. I do. I think I discovered it when you posted the video for it. Never heard the Drake song.

I hope you've got Bassrock Babies in that 2010 folder.

  5. “Toot & Boot It” came out late 2009 but I can’t believe YG & Ty are still relevant as ever today (not a diss)

  6. Oh how I wish Travis Porter or Rich Kidz was the ATL group to make it instead of Migos.

  7. So many regionally distinctive styles. HBK + B + YG existing at the same time as Waka + Gucci existing at the same time as Sean P + Roc is

Do you think styles are as distinctive these days?

    Great list. Playlisted here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnHLItwCf8aDev5PL-NPmGpQIfB2beDi

  8. Lol @ that Gudda Gudda line that whole era of rappers using that Drake punchline thing one of the most cringe worthy things to happen in rap music. Also speaking of Max Minelli his most recent album Say Goodbye is really good.

  9. Cheers, Noah. There's a lotta regionally-ambiguous Rap currently.

Ben, I still need to check that Max Minelli album.

  10. Forever thankful for getting introduced to Bassrock Babies, song hasn't left my ipod in a few years now.

Also that Max Minelli song is awesome.

Most of what I remember from 2010 rap-wise is listening to a lot of Livewire Records/Bay Area joints, some Freddie Gibbs, and not feeling Marcberg when it came out, even though most of my friends were telling me otherwise. Took me Reloaded to really get into Roc Marci and come back to it.

    J. Stalin ft The Jacka - Red & Blue Lights (prod The Mechanix), might be my fave song from that year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WubFV9y09EM
I swear I thought there used to be a video for it, but I can't find it, did I hallucinate it?

    A couple additions:

Tony Yayo - King Of The Pyrex
    J. Stalin - D-Boy Blues 2010
The Jacka & Ampichino - Bonafide Hustler Ft. Mistah F.A.B.
HD - Clausterphobics or Didn't Know That Was Your Wife
Polyester - Weekend Chicc ft Dom Kennedy
    Gucci Mane - Long Money
Eightball & MJG - Right Now
    Z-Ro - These Days
    Freddie Gibbs - The Ghetto
Freddie Gibbs ft Bun B - Rock Bottom
Curren$y - Chilled Coughphee ft Devin The Dude
Brotha Lynch Hung - Colostomy Bag

  11. Truthfully, Bassrock Babies is my most played song of the last 10 years.

I have vague memories of a Red & Blue Lights video too. That was in the running for this list.

  13. Loving all the Louisiana rap on here. Honestly might be my favorite state in rap (No Limit, Trill, Cash Money, Young Bleed really all Baton Rouge rap)

  14. The most Louisiana sounding song on the latest Max Minelli album https://youtu.be/NOdH7swABvM
