The spirit of Mark B & Blade lives on

Never forget!

Yo, remember that time Noisey got a couple of black teenagers arrested for selling lean on Instagram, or that time Noisey paid some Brendon Soderberg weed carrier to fly to the windy city, pretend to be a smack addict, and then ask the people on the violence-ravaged streets of south side Chicago that burning question on everyone's lips: is Citgo a better song than Laughing To The Bank?

Well, Noisey just redeemed themselves for such travesties by letting the great Clive Martin -- the Norman Clegg to 2$hin's "Electric" Entwistle in this Rap Game 2010 episode of Last Of The Summer Wine -- finally tackle the depressing spectacle of UK Hip Hop club nights in his latest installment of Big Night Out: Do Brits Get Hip Hop? The scenes contained here will be all too familiar to anyone from this grey isle, but the high concentration of girls and non-white faces at such a night seems slightly unrealistic. There are ethnic people in Bristol other than those 2 mumbling stoner cunts who used to be in Massive Attack?

  3. "every time im put on the spot I cant think of solid beats"

Clive and Jo FK aside, Noisey is end to end lulz. eg the Meek Mill interview with Millard

"I bring Snupe up early in our conversation. His response is vague, perhaps as a defense mechanism. “I was doing a show at a college in Louisiana. We’re about to ride to the plane, and a kid knocks on the window with a demo. I took it, and we popped it in. I was like, ‘Man, I like your style.’ And he been getting money and he’s been here ever since.”

The hook of “Lil Nigga Snupe” includes, “They killed my lil nigga Snupe / And all he wanted was a coupe / So what’s a nigga supposed to do? / Tell ‘em put the guns down? / Or tell these little niggas, ‘Shoot!’?”

I prod. “Isn’t Lil Snupe dead?”

Meek shifts in his seat, evaluating, deciding whether or not he trusts me."

  9. I know I probably lose all credibility for saying this but I actually managed to discover some decent hip hop nights as a student in Cambridge around 2009-2011 and I'm gonna tell a long and overly earnest story about it to act as a counterpoint to Noisey's typical sneering London-centric wankiness.

Me and some other state schoolers, who'd all followed hip hop and grime since our early teens, used to go to club nights with Cambridge locals at a place called Soul Tree, which is now sadly closed, but was then the vibrant centre of the hip community in the East (big ups Peterborough too). Whilst it wasn't purely hip hop that was played, the mix of "Racks"-type mainstream fare, dancehall standards and overplayed East Coast classics was a good way to find music-fans who actually want to go out and listen to this stuff for enjoyment rather than as a guilty pleasure. Westwood came by once, and nobody in attendance was there on some ironic bullshit.

As someone from Hastings, a predominantly white town where there's no scene to speak of and music arrives to me through radio, blogs and a couple of interested friends, it was good to be part of something like that.

    Yours sincerely,
    Ex-J.Cole fan

  11. that new YG 'left right' makes me nostalgic for my first/best clubbing experiences: peak hours in the venetian ballroom @ ocena kingston circa 2002. not for many years has a song rekindled that feeling of puking up 10 x £1 pints of stella

  13. Don't forget that Kitty Pryde begged Drew Millard to get the piece on her being an elaborate internet joke removed from Noisey UK.

  15. Shout out noisey uk for comissioning me to write a piece slagging off kitty pryde a while back and then backtracking when she became best m8s with drew millard et al. secondary s/o for them (well, JFK) for banning me for writing for them forever because I tweeted about their excessive coverage of failed 2007 london indie acts

  17. I made a Paul Barman 'joke' in the first paragraph and ended with 'Kesha for the Supreme cap crew' so perhaps Nosiey were doing me a favour
