Get In Where You Fit In

Saigon - Stocking Cap
(From Warning Shots mixtape; 2004/YouTube; 2024)

A pleasant surprise, like seeing shaved p*ssy in front of ya eyes: Saigon releasing a 20th anniversary video for one of the highlights of his Warning Shots mixtape. It's a pity Saigon developed a misguided "I AM NEW YORK'S SAVIOUR" martyr complex because he was a good rapper who misunderstood his position in the game: my man thought he was the rebirth of Nas for the Roc-A-Fella era when he was #actually the reboot of Intelligent Hoodlum for the 50 Cent era. Apparently he's gonna drop videos for a few of his early choonz, which means I might finally get the Diduntdidunt video I've been craving for the past 21 years.

Cool to see some Vaughn Bodē character graffiti in a 2024 Rap video. If you did graffiti at some point between 1989 and 1999 then you & your crew definitely painted a Bodē character once or twice.

  2. Saigon really had a nice lane when he first came out but like you said once he acted like he was gonna change the game and tried to be a thugged out Talib Kweli his music fell all the way off.

  3. He might be the best example of noughties New York delusions of grandeur.

Side note: it's nice to see a Vaughn Bode graffiti character in a 2024 rap video.

  4. Still have fond memories of Saigon punching Prodigy at his own album release party as well as dismantling Joe Budden in an otherwise fairly embarrassing beef for both sides.

  5. Never forget New Yitty where Prodigy called Saigon "an ugly dipshit, the black Craig Mack"

    Like Mack himself wasn't black.

  6. Lmao at that Prodigy line 💀 😭 😂
I still miss the way he could be ruthless like that.

Early mixtape-era Saigon was loaded with jams, I still jam Moral Of The Story a couple times a year. But yeah we he started getting that hype that he could be the re-birth of New Yawk rap or whatever and signed to a major label it all went downhill from there.

Greatest Story Never Told had a couple solid tracks but is also very forgettable.

  7. Last Saigon song I fuxwit was his Joe Budden dis over Protect Ya Neck + Pump It Up. Fuk Budden and anyone who listen to his music or his podcasts. Worst rapper/podcaster of all time.

  8. Surprised Leather Vest Joe wasn't hawking those gold Trump runners today, seems right up his alley.

  9. Good point. The worst dressed rapper of all time and that truly is no mean feat.
