(From the internet; 2023)
I ain't tryna get all Black Eyed Peas on youse lot, but where is the love for this song? The Texan equivalent of ah slumper, this is one of 2023's most ig'nant Rap songs. It's also far superior to the original version and not just because BeatKing reunited Princess & Diamond from Crime Mob - the original suffered from a beat-switch which sucked all the energy outta that shit. It's 2023 and rappers are still making the rookie mistake of recording songs with beat-switches where the 2nd beat is an anti-climax. The trick is that two different beats in the SAME DAMN SONG will only consolidate if both beats are of equal quality and the beat which closes the song is the 'ardest. Rappers need to study Andre Nickatina & San Quinn's Saw A Gangsta Cry as an example of how beat-switches should be done.

Good to see BeatKing still at it 10+ years later
ReplyDeletebest beatking t-shirt yet
ReplyDeleteUniversal truths in under 8 words.
ReplyDeleteEzale "Hotel, Motel" is another good beat switch song.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah. The last good one, in fact.
ReplyDeleteI was just listening to this beatswitch right here n id be flabbergasted if a masta killa album got the martorial seal of approval but i need to know lol

The older n slower i get I honestly think i like masta killa more than eg method man n inspectah deck.
Also its truly baffling how rza could rap so good n produce bangers like this well into the 00s (Run!) n never once make any listenable solo music
I never checked that Masta Killa album but I remember quite a few folks IRL and URL being like "this album is actually really good!" Song pulls off the beat-switch trick very well.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt say its the classic everyone made it out to be (that classic wu sound is back or whatever) but its got shit at least as good as the single w odb. I do recall one lunatic saying its better than the pretty tony album, it was prob cilvarings using a fake name
ReplyDeleteThe funniest revelation for me the other day was I rocking w its killah priest verse then let down when meth showed up on the same song lol, growth
My mate was tryna convince me to listen to Killah Priest's recent album where he's rapping from the perspective of forest animals and insects.
ReplyDeleteI just listened to the 1st two songs n your mates right wtf?!?
ReplyDeleteThis makes Blue Cheese sound like FAYBAN lol I dunno what to do w myself here but im p sure im a killah priest man 4 life now
The parrot flow> nas edward g robinson flow
ReplyDeleteGotta be better than Lupe Fiasco rhyming from the perspective of a hamburger eh?
ReplyDeletePriest has missed a trick if he didn't remake The Message and flip the lyrics to "it's like a forest sometimes".
