(From Sremm 4 Life album; 2023)
Do you ever find a song equally addictive and annoying? That's how I feel about Flaunt It/Cheap here. This begins as Swag-Rap De La Soul and ends up as a Star Wars strip club anthem. Like 99% of tracks with beat-switches, it'd be better if it were two separate songs, but since it's not it'll have to knock as it is.
First half of this song is dope AF.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only song on the album that had any propulsive energy.
ReplyDeleteTanisha (Pump That) would be a good booty-chatter banger, but the Auto-Tune makes it sound like a tampon commercial.
ReplyDeleteThe 1st Sremmlife was great IMO but their music since has been mostly very disappointing. Nothing unique about them has made it onto this album.
ReplyDeleteMystified by that description of the album. “Sexy” doesn’t have propulsive energy?
ReplyDeleteLove it, gonna have to check out the album now
ReplyDeleteLast thing I loved by them was "Offshore" which was really all about Young Thug
Tanisha the issue to me is more that that kind of beat codes as more obviously retro than some of the other dance beats in circulation right now, which is cool but not really cutting through. Minor criticism
ReplyDeleteThat said don’t understand jmil’s post either. Second rae album is a classic. You don’t like black Beatles? Have no idea what was present on the first album that is missing here other than shock of the new
