Young Giftz & TREE - Nino
(From TREE Featuring The City compilation; 2012)
Can't let this year pass without celebrating that 2022 is the 10th anniversary of Nino. How very generous of TREE to give such a great song to a young'n like Giftz. As far as TREE songs go, Nino is number one in my top two, and it's been that way since it dropped too. TREE as the ol' dirty bastard son of Howlin' Wolf and Tammi Terrell, Giftz as the plucky sidekick, moonshine songwriting, champagne chorus - it's the song which best defines TREE's Soul-Trap sound innit?
Great Chicago Rap video moment at 1:11 where the windy city lives up to its nickname and blows Giftz m8's hat right off his head.
You had me hoping that there was new Tree music when I saw this.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Young Giftz? Meet The Dealer is an absurd banger, especially if you've got a decent subwoofer

Apparently he retired from music and got into real estate. Rare nice happy career trajectory for a Chicago trapper-turnt-rapper eh?
ReplyDeleteDamn 10 years since this absolute banguer? Thanks for the reminder, I be digging into your best of the year shortly, Happy Holidayz from Suomi mane.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you, Mr. Disaster 🍻
ReplyDeleteFree Tree!
ReplyDeleteHe's doing porridge? Free TREE until it's backwards.
ReplyDeleteYeah unfortunately tree's in jail
ReplyDeleteGah!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I didn't even listen to this song once in 2022 let alone celebrate it. It was for sure near the very top of FSD's Songs of 2012 list, top 5-10 for sure. Tree basically Pimp C'd that whole song -- did the beat, the hook and laid a verse. It was tee'd up perfectly for Giftz and he smacked it. Fun time for Chicago music. Everything changed after...
ReplyDeleteBumped into Giftz a couple months ago and he's doing great. Hopefully Tree will be home in the Spring.
He really did Pimp C that shit.
ReplyDeleteEternal blessings to TREE and Giftz for creating such a wonderful song.
