Made meself a little playlist of P-Lo's current run of singles. Once a minor HBK Gang member more known for his production, P-Lo outlasted the crew's star rappers and has truly blossomed orchestrating self-produced Slap Anthemos on his lonesome. This ain't no J. Cole and his record sales, this is P-Lo and his songwriting skillz - slapinum with no features.
One of those rare artists whose later work eclipses his early work. I'm retroactively working through his entire discog and most of his earlier release have nothing as good as, say, Going Off or Same Squad.
ReplyDeleteBlue Hunnids from the Kool John & P-Lo album is classic old P-Lo.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'm also partial to Mad and Bitch I Look Good from that same album.
ReplyDeleteThis was necessary
ReplyDeleteGotta disqualify Mad for having G-Eazy on it 🚫
ReplyDeleteP-lo hitting different with these new singles. Going off is exactly what I want to hear from him. I'm almost getting some krunk vibes from this beat that make me want to bop my head and foot at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess that he releases an album that charts in spring 2022.
wasn't he producing a fair amount for the more popular hbk artists like sage and iamsu! etc. back in the day? i guess sage the gemini self prod red nose gas pedal hmmm... who would have thought the twerk anthems well would run dry
ReplyDeleteYeah he did a buncha their old stuff.
ReplyDeleteHe was behind a couple of big hits too in Act Right by Yo Gotti etc and Flo Rida & Sage's GDFR.
Can any artist put together a better 5-song EP right now than P-Lo?
ReplyDeleteNegative.
ReplyDeleteDecent new Beeda Weeda slap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fujUwW5rQ0M&ab_channel=BeedaWeeda
ReplyDeleteProduction does it for me.
