She in love with a savage - Winnie Cooper"
Mic Terror ft. Gzus Piece - Thot Boyz
(From Thot Boyz single; 2021)
One of the best things about Midwest Rap is that it isn't beholden to myopic home-state bias and so all sorts of regional influences abound. Thus, you get Chicago rappers like Mic Tre & Geazy-P combining two New Orleans classics by 5th Ward Weebie and the Hot Boys on the SAME DAMN SONG! The moral of Thot Boyz? What happens in the summer, stays in the summer.
I had a huge crush on Winnie Cooper
ReplyDeleteNatch.

RIP Biz Markie!
ReplyDeleteOh Ffs.
ReplyDeleteI’ve just realized that Gzus Piece sounds like Fabolous.
ReplyDeleteYou've definitely realised that before now!
ReplyDeleteThe Weebie and Hot Boys links are the same in the post

ReplyDeleteI always had the same thought about Midwest rappers getting their influences from all over and creating their own lane. Same goes for the Bay meets NO sound of Detroit for example, like if you listen to East Side Cheddah Boyz or Street Lords, you could tell they were equally influenced by Sick Wid It and Cash Money.
ReplyDeleteIn the same thought, I remember doing a deep dive on 90s Flint/Saginaw/Upper Michigan rap a couple years ago, and on some German blog they had tracked down a dude from Po Broke Souls if I remember correctly, and the guy was saying that the 3 big influences on influences on their sound were Scarface, MC Eiht and Kool G Rap.
A holy trinity!
