(From Heart Of Gangsta - Mind Of A Hustler - Tongue Of A Pimp album; 2000)
(From The Game Is... Thick Pt. 2 album; 2004)
Sod a Mac Dre Monday because it's Mac Dre Monday Thru Sunday here at The Martorialist. Thump traffic is at an all time high and both these songs are far better Thizzle Dance records than Thizzle Dance itself. You can't tell me nuffink and you can't spell Mac Dre without MDMA or sumfink.
**EDIT** BigSleep found which Dre DVD the Dubee jibber-jabber from P-Lo's Walked In comes from. Peep 7:30 in this video:
The Game is... Thick - Part 2 is underrated. Retro Dance Record >>>>> Thizzelle Dance.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite things about the album is that Cutthoat Soup inspired J-Diggs' best song ever.
ReplyDeleteThat Turf Buccaneers album was great IMO. Have y’all listened to that?
ReplyDeleteOf course. You Ain't My Dog is the best Dre & Dubee song ever imho.
ReplyDeleteEvery day is Mac Dre day.
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to Punk Police and I'm N Motion quite often lately. I get the feeling his early output (89-92) often gets overlooked in favor of his Thizz phase.
Damn near everything he did with Khayree behind the boards is peak Rap music, including the '96/'97 comeback songs.
ReplyDeleteLife's A Bitch has not left my 4Go Ipod in close to 8 years now, maybe my personal fave of his.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this article otherwise:
https://www.passionweiss.com/2021/05/11/who-killed-mac-dre/
Not that who did it matters so much in the grand scheme of things, the fact that he got killed like that is a bummer whichever way you cut it, but it's still a fascinating read.
Unrelated, but did you see this one already? Gucci flips Posse On Broadway:

I've been racking my brain to find a logical connection between Gucci and Sir Mix-A-Lot but haven't found it yet.
Yohan, the Gucci song is fun but not a patch on Big Ballin' With My Homies or Dipset's 45th On Broadway.
ReplyDeleteFred, I read that. Good article, although he got a couple of Fat Tone details wrong.
Great find by BigSleep. The entire video is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe fact there's so many Dre DVDs makes up for the fact he only shot a handful of music videos throughout his entire career.
ReplyDeleteRandom thought: Dre was so good at sex rhymes that he could make a line like "she put mustard on my hot dog" sound like the most erotic shit ever wrote.
ReplyDeleteMac Dre was my biggest blind spot. Thank you for putting me on a few years ago. He is now one of my faves
ReplyDeleteExcellent news. Very pleased to have you aboard #DreHive.
