Stress wants to be a verb, make sure that it's a noun
When stresses are repressed, effects can be profound
So don't be in denial when stress is goin' down"
Homeboy Sandman - Stress
(From Don't Feed The Monster album; 2020/YouTube; 2021)
Better out than in: off-kilter observational Rap that's more of an Overlord Of Overthinking handbook than Organized Konfusion's hall of famer and its equally hallowed remix. This song properly clicked for me when I realised it's got that sneaky MF Grimm Tick Tick sloppy-choppy energy in Sandman's flow and Quelle Chris' production. Brain sick, tick tick, stress will blow it up!
(From MF DOOM's Operation: Doomsday album; 1999)
Tick Tick definitely ranks somewhere in the upper echelon of ya host's top ten G.O.A.T guest solo songs on other rapper's albums. The other nine? In no particular order: Lady Of Rage's G Funk (Intro) from Snoop's Doggystyle; Mac Dre's Game I'm Spittin' from Dubee's AKA Sugawolf; MF DOOM's I Hear Voices Part 1 from MF Grimm's The Downfall Of Ibylis; Kurious' Fastlane from King Gheedorah's Take Me To Your Leader; Fam-Lay's FamLay Freestyle from The Clipse's Lord Willin'; Lil' Cease's O.G solo version of Crush On You from Lil' Kim's Hard Core; Lil' Wayne's Wayne's Takeover 1 from Mannie's The Mind Of Mannie Fresh; Un Kasa's Un Casa from Dipset's Diplomatic Immunity; and Memphis Bleek's Hand It Down from Jay Camel's Volume 2.
Hov's Dear Summer on the Bleek album.
ReplyDeleteMy honourable mention has gotta be Megalon's Rain Blood also from MF Grimm's first album.
ReplyDeleteKillah Priest BIBLE off of Gza's Liquid Swords.
ReplyDeleteGood call. I used to hate that song but it's grown on me over the years.
ReplyDeleteOne day I'll finally get round to checking out Heavy Mental.
SAAFIR "THAT BULLSHIT"
ReplyDeleteLuca Brasi Speaks off Starlito's Cold Turkey album.
ReplyDeleteThat Bullshit is so sick. That woulda been top ten if not for the bit about where he says his arse is sweaty. Tmi imho.
ReplyDeleteMF Grimm has a new album out. The hunt for the gingerbread man 2.
ReplyDeleteIs it better than the first? That album was so shit I haven't checked for Grimm since.
ReplyDeleteGot v into killah priest lately, a development I didn't see coming lol. Heavy mental is bananas, prob some of the most scientifical science ever made
ReplyDeleteMemphis Bleek - Dynasty intro
All the big Tymer intros should count since their intro shit talking n actual rapping are often indistinguishable
Them Japanese lads on bulhoone mindstate might be the worst one
NM u mentioned the bleek song
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed HBS's album from last year a fair bit.
ReplyDeleteSpart, yeah I ended up buying the CD recently.
ReplyDeleteDonal, gotta disqualify the Big Tymers intros for not being solo. Group tracks on other rapper's albums is a whole 'nother topic.
Fuck it, I just bought a cheap copy of Heavy Mental.
ReplyDeleteall I know is Too Low's "Funky Lil" from Scarface's The World Is Yours had my middle school goin nuts
ReplyDeleteYet another great Mac Dre song that I previously never knew existed.
ReplyDeleteJmil, it was his "let me reintroduce myself!" song after getting outta prison, I believe.
ReplyDeleteDrew, undeniably 'ard song.
He reused game im spitting lyrics on Mac Who? w Mac mall which is a top 10 Dre song to me n is up there w schoolly d n snoop for quasi freestyle/actual song songs. Been finding there's khayree versions of a ton of them early post prison Dre songs.
ReplyDeleteDubee is v underrated I've been playing him a lot lately n speaking of, the khayree mix of Billy Bad Ass goes.
What's the Khayree mix? Link me plz.

ReplyDeleteDMG - you don’t hear me doe again on a Scarface album
ReplyDeleteThe World Is Yours was his secretly his first My Homies 😄
ReplyDeleteSo what did you think of heavy Mental then?
ReplyDeleteCD hasn't arrived yet.
ReplyDeleteand let's not forget My Homies blessed us with the first two Devin solo songs. He wasn't even The Dude yet. "Boo Boo'n" and "Do What You Want"
ReplyDeleteGood point,
ReplyDeleteHonestly Killah Priest has a few albums i really like but in more recent years he's gotten way to carried away with all conspiracy ufo garbage.
ReplyDeleteAncient astronauts! 👽
ReplyDeleteMan if too much conspiracy UFO garbage is a problem maybe killah priest isn't for ya
