Me, a connoisseur: M8, City Girls combined Planet Rock with Percolator and the results are pure Miami Bass Poison Quim madness.
(From the internet; 2021)
Apparently this song got officially cock-blocked by sample clearance. Gonna hazard a guess that Bambaataa was asking for too big a bag since the noncing allegations have left him broke and hiding out in Germany. Never forget!
I hope when this COVID shit is over with more rappers will realize people want to dance and create more uptempo bangers like this one.
ReplyDeleteSong's all kinds of amazing. Who would've thunk a female duo from Miami would sample Planet Rock in 2021 to great effect?
ReplyDeleteI concur X 2.
ReplyDeletecount me in the drumless camp
ReplyDeleteCajmere so dope.
ReplyDeleteGenius is reporting 2020 as the year of leaking:
ReplyDelete"Twerkulator is a song by City Girls that was supposed to be on their album City On Lock, but it didn’t make the final track list because of sample clearance issues. The song leaked along with the rest of the album on the day before release, but “Twerkulator” was the only song from the leak that did not make the final track list."
And there I was, thinking I found my first legitimate 5 star song of 2021.
Never trust Genius. The full song didn't leak until 4 or 5 days ago so it definitely counts as 2021.
ReplyDeleteMore FL rappers/singers need to modernize that bass sound. Would love a project in that style from Ross or T-Pain.
ReplyDeleteIsnt one of em JT Moneys niece or something? Its in the blood
ReplyDeleteI dunno, but if so that'd explain why one of them is called JT.
ReplyDeleteThey’re releasing this on Friday. I hope they didn’t re-record or change the mix of the song. https://twitter.com/citygirls/status/1394733589003046912?s=21
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteGreat artwork.
