(From the Please Pass The Mic compilation; 1992)
Perfection is perfected so now I finally understand what Snoop's line on Nuthin' But A "G" Thang meant. Pre-The Chronic Doggy Dogg from the L.A Gangsta-Rap cassette tape netherworld. Same Grover Washington sample as Played Like A Piano but with a tad more tinkling of the keys. Fun fact: the "one n*gga who decided to leave and get his rap on elsewhere" Snoop is throwin' salt on during his first verse was none other than Domino.
MP3 here for anyone who wants it like this, like that, and like this and uh.
Fuck this is nice. Interesting how much live instruments are in the beat for this era of LA rap too.
ReplyDeleteLearned recently Domino had the first verse on the Bloods n Crips album.
Need to hear Wayniacs raps now
Upload of the Please Pass The Mic compilation.
ReplyDelete(This song is by far the best shit on there, natch.)
Wow
ReplyDeletewow never heard this before thanks for this (and the link!)
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only person who had no idea about this song previously.
ReplyDeleteWow, great find, had never heard of this track before. So alongside Snoops appearances on The Chronic, I think this is all of his (known) pre-Doggystyle work, right?
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you happen to have A-Wax's Savage Timez album? I can only find dead links and I know it's been shared on Philaflava way back in the day.
Finally, I peeped that Kwest The Madd Lad album you were mentioned earlier this year, great album. Besides the tracks you've mentioned, I also really like Disnexone, Skin Care and 125 Pennies.
I definitely hear the Richie Rich/Smooth B influence in his flow here vs Chronic/Doggystyle era he has more of a 3-2 style flow.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, Ben.
ReplyDeleteYohan, i think I have a rip of Savage Timez somewhere. Tbh my favourite thing about that album is the unreleased snippet used in the intro. I assume it must be one of A-Wax's prison demos.
Another fun fact: Perfection later changed their name to Foesum of Lil' Somethin' Somethin' minor fame.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you only found out this one now , I think I've posted it on dwg ages ago (could be wrong).
ReplyDeletebtw it's also on the reissue of the perfection album on cd :https://www.discogs.com/Foesum-Perfection/release/1620763
they had some snoop's demo song on this release :
https://www.discogs.com/Foesum-The-Lost-Tapez/master/1664740
county blues is on this 12"

mp45
I've definitely never heard this song before.
ReplyDeletePlus, Lil' Somethin' Somethin' is the only Foesum track I know.
Ah foesum no way.
ReplyDeleteIve got savage timez i can post it here tomorrow if its not been done. I rly agree bout the intro being the highlight too. that album was a bit underwhelming to me as a rob lo/wax fan after hearing bout it for yrs, some cool shit on it though.
Big fan of young snoop over Radio Activity, myself
https://youtu.be/YYJpDYxUn_4
V good shout on richie rich, first time ive heard it that clearly. never considered smooth b or 3-2 before at all but thats spot on. 3-2 had a huge impact on texas rappers flows imo eg you can rly hear it in pimp c after he hooked up w ugk.
ReplyDeleteNever rly thought bout big mike either outside the trading hooks or w e but the whole speeding up n slowing down stop start shit snoop adopted later on feels v Mike. instresting
Reading here Wayniac was in the Twinz! snoop trivia overload rn.
ReplyDeleteNever heard them outside of the warren g feature
@d That Savage Timez drop would still be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteAlso good looking on the Snoop demo tape.
Snoop's a massive Smooth B fan.
ReplyDeleteA-Wax needs to release his prison demos already.
I knew this song, but didn't know there was an actual release of it.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago there was 6 tracks of this release (pretty sure it's a hoax) floating around:
https://www.discogs.com/Snoop-Doggy-Dogg-Over-The-Counter/release/1439560
http://grandgood.com/2008/08/26/snoop-doggy-dogg-over-the-counter-unreleased-demo/
One of them being "Let Em' Understand", which is the exact same song. It was also released as a hidden track on one of the Foesum CDs.
If you're looking for the other 5 songs, this link is still active:

ReplyDelete^^ There you go, Yohan.
ReplyDeleteCheers Krisch.
