(From No More (Making Love) single; 1991)
File this under 'old-wave British BBQ music that's forever fresh.' My country failed itself when Aretha Daye's only single didn't become one of the biggest street soul hits of the 90's. Anybody have a Scooby Doo who the uncredited guest rapper is? His verse is undeniably corny but very necessary for its big Dance Energy energy.
Wow. I need this.
ReplyDeleteLove this type of music. Keep it coming!!
ReplyDeleteNo name - just like Columbo's dog.
ReplyDeleteWho are some similar artists who make this type of music?
ReplyDeleteNew BeatKing song that picking up traction on US rap radio. https://youtu.be/Qqlw8iQeTHs His highest charting song ever.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the first BeatKing song I've ever seen on the UK urban TV station.

ReplyDeleteThere's loadsa episodes on the 'Tube.
ReplyDeletenever heard this tune before but it definitely has that early days of Kiss FM vibe to it. Asked around and others seem to remember it getting played on there and on the pirates.
ReplyDeleteI found the producer on Insta (because these things bug me) and he said the rapper was a guy called MC Chan, assume its this guy

Nice work.
ReplyDeleteMC Chan eh? Damn, they gave my man no credit just because he was AZN ๐
I didn't even know old-wave British BBQ music was a thing but I can def get behind it
ReplyDeleteYour spam filters keep eating up my comments on your blog, dog.
ReplyDelete(Pause?)
Oh man good to know, I've kind of lost control of how to manage the site (besides the posts lol) when they updated Wordpress which I use, let me figure out how to disable that so you can get back in there lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of feeling this old wave British cookout music, that link someone posted looks like it isn't available for us Yanks to listen to, any other tracks like this one you'd recommend checking out for someone w/ zero exposure to it? Kind of in the mood to go down this wormhole and not even sure what to type in to start lol.
Some anthems:
ReplyDeleteSoul II Soul - Back To Life
Soul II Soul - Keep On Movin'
52nd Street - Tell Me (How It Feels)
Zushii - There Ain't Enough Love
Tongue N Cheek - Nobody
Tammy Payne - Free
Cool Down Zone - Heaven Knows
Irini - 24/7 Love
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
Massive Attack - Safe From Harm
You've done me a great service here my friend, as I'm now bumping the songs from this playlist, overcoming the fact that no one can go anywhere/do anything this summer by having my own pretend old wave British cookout with these choonz, taking me back to a better time and place that I didn't know existed before but that I'm still somehow feeling kind of nostalgic about.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have probably heard a few of them sampled on rap songs.
