Two reasons why it was worthwhile sitting through one of the new VladTV interviews with B.G. Knocc Out & Dresta: Vlad acting like the world's foremost expert on the Death Row vs. Ruthless beef and then being totally unfamiliar with D.P.G Killa, and this video popping up in my YouTube recommendations afterwards:
"B.G. Knocc Out & Dresta havin' a double-lead party for they double-lead album.
It just went double-lead, it just went 3 copies...
... and they bought all 3 of 'em, busta ass n*ggas!"
I'm starting to think Vlad is most effective when he gets the details wrong and people feel compelled to correct him. It's like when Louis Theroux does his earnestly clueless routine to disarm the interviewee.
That album is a personnal favorite of mine. Best cut on there might be Jealousy, with Mike Crazyneck Sims going loose on bass and guitar.
As far as I know, the album was supposed to come out on Ruthless, but Easy-E died and they were picked up by Def Jam. Glad they still managed to put that one out. DPG/K is one of the best Death Row diss with Don't Bite the Phunk by Kokane & Cold 187um.

ReplyDeleteThey only have one album! Its the 2nd interview too. What a lazy bastard lol u could see the disbelief on BGs face
ReplyDeleteThat B.G. Knocc Out & Dresta album is underrated.
ReplyDeleteCompton Hoe is another great song from Real Brothers too
ReplyDeleteI luh the title track too

yeah ive watched all of these as well as the BG solo, and he NEVER asked them why they were on def jam and not ruthless.
ReplyDeletethat shouldn't be an overlooked footnote...
i must say the best Vlad reoccurring guest is Tray Deee
Yeah, him and Godfrey are the best.
ReplyDeleteafter running through the Real Brothas album for the first time in 15-20 years, I maintain that the best song is "DPGK" followed by "Compton Hoe"
ReplyDeleteReal Brothas REALLY shoulda been a single. One of the illest G-Funk synth squiggles of all time, imho.
