Generic list post: April 2018

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when what the internet really needed was even more discourse about KanYe West.

Father Dom - Tell Your Baby Mama Leave Me Alone (1997)
Husalah - Humpin' (2018)
Level & Mouse On Tha Track ft. Boosie BadAzz - #DFWT (Remix) (2018)
Tamia - Leave It Smokin' (2018)
Mr. Fingers - Full Moon (2018)

Other notables: listened to 70th Street Carlos' Instagram teasers more than most new music this month; XL Middleton's We Gotta Go sorta did DJ Quik better than the real new DJ Quik song; that Prod By Bloc track is the first BlocBoy JB song which hasn't annoyed the fuck outta me; expected more from OMB Peezy over Mouse On Tha Track production; Maine Musik's Soulja Slim Flow 3 isn't a patch on the first two installments because OMB Peezy already recorded the definite From What I Was Told beatjack; didn't listen to Cardi B's album because I'm not a gay bloke or a Pitchfork writer; probably should listen to the E-40 & B-Legit album in case there's some of that late-career magic in the vein of 43 or Rear View Mirror on there, huh?

  1. Were you as disappointed as me by the new Dr Octagon album? What about The Czarface/DOOM joint? Did you see Richard Blackwood's mock-Sopranos exit from EastEnders?

  2. I haven't listened to any Keith album since the album with Ice-T; I like to pretend that Avalanche is the last song DOOM dropped; only soap I watch nowadays is Neighbours obv.

  3. All the Stressmatic tracks + Guilty By Association make it worth listening to

  4. thanks for posting that Tamia track. i'm a huge r&b head but that slipped by me. Where'd you find that?

  5. i wish 40 would do a whole album with his son on the beats. Mostly the production on his recent albums have been kinda samey and generic. The weirder the beat, the better 40 raps IMO.

  6. Speaking of Tamia, my fav recent r&b song and a hit on US r&b radio is Ella Mai "Boo'd Up". Dope for DJ Mustard to still be scoring hits in 2018.

  7. Tamia's new song came up in my YouTube recommendations after I watched the So Into You remix video.

Good point about why '40 raps so regular nowadays for the most part.

  8. I became so disillusioned by 40 becoming yr average rapper Ive missed out on most his albums post Revenue Retrievin. Kinda hard to adjust from "ill listen to anything this man says over even ho hum production cos its usually incredible" to "maybe this ones got a few joints"

Think im ready to get over being a believer now though. heard the last batch of albums were good.

  10. I rly liked it but again it felt v weird to listen to an E-40 song because of a hook, esp this decade.

  11. It was basically '40's attempt at Yo Gotti's Everyday.

  14. I just noticed that "Everybody" and "Choices" are so similar. '40 & Gotti made a dope song together though, "Law". it was a moderate hit over here in the US.
