Carry on Campin'

Camp Lo - Camp Lo (Bust Ya Down)
(From Ski's vaults; 1995/On The Way Uptown album; 2016)

As taken from Camp Lo & Ski's new album of 1995/1996 unreleased joints. This shit is Scaramanga before Scaramanga, and while it's far too raw for Uptown Saturday Night or the B-sides of Camp Lo's previous singles, it definitely sounds like some long-lost demo track Stretch & Bobbito played once in 1995 that headz have been tryin' to track down ever since. Shalamar magnetic.

  1. I'm enjoying 'On The Way Uptown' even more than the real version. Those vintage Ski beats are hotter than Flick in her prime.

  2. I wish they'd put World Heist on Uptown Saturday Night instead of the pointless Sparkle remix. Never owned the Coolie High 12" so I'd completely slept on that song.

  3. Profile Records clearly had a limited sample clearance budget based on how the retail version came out, which is why 'Sparkle' and 'Coolie High' got replayed and 'Short Eyes' was cut...or so I assume.

  4. Coolie High and the Coolie High Is Life joint you're digging aren't the same song, though. There is no alternate studio rerecording of the latter - this is the first time we've ever heard the song.

There's no replays on Uptown Saturday Night to my knowledge, it's all samples. The only difference between the album versions and the demo versions of the tracks which did make the album is that the demoes are literally unmastered lo-fi recordings.

The only song on here which is an O.G version they had to alter for Uptown.. is Hollywood At The Disco - it's the track Park Joint became after Lil' Kim's Crush On You dropped in '96 and they had to scrap the beat because it used the same sample.

  5. 'Sparkle' sounds replayed or at least chopped-up more though, right?

  6. Them unmastered drums do sound harder on the demo, tbf. Can see why that'd be the CRC-approved version.

  7. Also World Heist has a coda over Roy Ayers' King George which isn't on the O.G 1995 Coolie High 12" version.

Love that sample. Can't believe it's barely ever been touched. My fave J-Zone song used it.
