Generic list post: December 2016

Obligatory wrap-up post of those songs I've played most during the month when ya host let Ireland down. FYI, Pain In Da Ass was a-ok with me - The Return Of The Diaz Brothers is a boricua-rap classic which woulda been unthinkable without him, and it can't be a coincidence that Jay-Z fell off after his albums stopped featuring Wayne Da Pain.

G. Dep - Blak N*gga (1996/2016)
Mac Blast - 5 Mins Of Funk (2009)
Madlib & MF DOOM - Avanlache (2011/2016)
Mike $aatchi - Marty McFly (2016)
70th Street Carlos - When I Was Little (2016)
WNC Whop Bezzy - Consequences (2016)
Maleek Berry - Kontrol (2016)
Kwamz & Flava ft. Tion Wayne - Calling (2016)
Shatta Wale - Kakai (2016)

Other notables: Camp Lo's legit hitherto-unheard Suga Streets really should have been the B-side to Piece Of The Action in 1996 before Ski expanded his production palette and went full-on Coffy Is The Technicolor nostaljack for Uptown Saturday Night; Nef The Pharaoh's Mistletoe is way better than a song produced by Ryan Hemsworthless has any right to be, but it's still a mere Christmas throwaway; I prefer SOB & RBE's Lane Changing more than either of their big singles, but they've yet to make a song that I'd pay 99p for/go to the trouble of rippin' the audio to MP3; I dunno WTF is goin' on in Gunplay's head to make him think that Bible On The Dash Part 2 should sound like a Chinese Jordan Kevin Gates?!

  2. Did you see Ezale's interview on Fader? He said 5 Minutes Of Funktown is a homage to the Mac Blast song. It's where the "this when them Funktown n*ggas came out they was goin' crazy" sample comes from.

Only Mac Blast song I've heard previously that's stuck with me is We Sleep Good At Night

  5. DB Tha General also had a Mac Blast homage song - the one where him and Lavish D went at Philthy Rich and set fire to the True Religions.

I assume Mac Blast didn't approve and that's why he did the spoken word jail phone interludes on the Philthy Rich & Mozzy album? (He's doing 40 years or summat now.)

  7. What happened with Gunplay? All the stars were aligning for him with Bible on The Dash and then nothing.

  8. Gunplay is rubbish now. Album was a dud. BOTD2 is boring. We'll always have Bogota the Prequel. 😢

  9. 'Consequences' is indeed a slap, that whole WNC Whop Bezzy tape was very solid top to bottom, my two favorites were 'U Better Chill' and 'Go Get It' and Consequences would probably come in at third. I dare say he may be the strongest overall member of the whole WNC but I hope WNC Carlos doesn't hear me say that!

  10. I like the Whop 'tape most when it's on some pure Louisiana shit: Consequences, the You Know I Ain't Scared remix, Left Right, and the intro which really shoulda been a full song.

  11. Ayo martorialist

You fucking with this Weatherman choon by Yo Gotti and Kodak Black. Matter of fact, what's your thoughts on Kodak, what with his resemblance to Boosie?

  12. Haven't heard that one.

SKRT and Lockjaw are the only Kodak songs I'll ride for. Vibin' In This Bih is good before Gucci sucks all the energy outta it with that flat cameo of his.

  13. Fair enough! The choon he did with Rae sreummurd is slept on too IMO

  14. I dunno if Id say Kodaks that similiar to Boosie, their subjects overlap a bit n theyre heartfelt but theyve v different styles imo.

You Know I Aint Scared being the main standout on that last Boosie rly shows where he should be looking for production.

  15. and Boosie being on a worldwide smash like Black Beatles is a victory in theory and Im glad it happened but his blandness on there too hurt the song. Im late to being a Gucci fan but I hope he can sort it out hes just doing fuck all rn

  16. A friend of mine revealed to me he's Pain In Da Ass's cousin. I was star struck, can't lie

  17. On a related note, I've long wondered if he did the voices on Rodin Dirty and the Hell Hath No Fury intro. Maybe someone here can give me closure (nullus).

  18. a classoc for sure, but i have to go with super toght

  19. Kodak hasn't really sounded like Boosie since his early stuff, and its much better that he doesn't

  20. GuWop's verse on "Vibin in this Bih" is great though, I'm not into new gucci but you guys are tripping

  21. Most unwelcome + outta place Gucci cameo since MC Hammer. Completely kills the song's momentum. Don't even need to imho that because it's an actual fact.

  22. nah it's one of his best verses

locked me in a box so i'm comin out swingin

  23. ...and yet djs always cut the song off before Gucci's flat-ass verse comes in, just as they did with MC Hammer.
