Funny how a video can sell you on a song you'd previously dismissed as merely aiight, innit? It was always gonna be an impossible task for Ezale to find original production which equals that of the LarrySmith and DJ Mustard classics he'd jacked in 2013, but the modest slap of I Ain't Trippin' Off Nothin' sounds so much more tremedo when paired with moving images of him in the midst of the worst comedown of his life before his mind rewinds back to the night before where he's Thizzfacing around the function like some Phunky Phat Graph-X-ized hybrid of Jackie Chain & Animal from The Muppets.
Ezale - I Ain't Trippin' Off Nothin'
(From YouTube; 2015)
Hold tight all the Oakland rappers tryna chirpse lasses who're more interested in meetin' Sage The Gemini.
So, anyway: Ezale as Oakland's answer to Jackie Chain but with mid 80s rap classics + peak Ratchet joints replacing 90s rave + '00s Euro-pop as his production bread & butter.
Can't believe I missed this when it first made the rounds. I'm usually wary of the wasteoid schtick, but Ezale seems like such a genuine skeezeball that I actually enjoy his take on it.
This shit goes.
ReplyDeleteSuper distracted by how quickly he exhales the weed. though.
Top notch method acting or most duplicitous weed smoking since Nas & Dr Dre sucked their teeth pretending to pass a blunt on Nas Is Coming?

ReplyDeleteYou're tripping. This beat is fire
ReplyDeleteIt was just different from what I was expecting from Ezale.
ReplyDeleteLike, if there was a Mob Trial 4 compilation, this beat sounds like it would have been used for the Husalah track on there.

ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying how these new Bay rappers like Ezale and Nef are releasing music at a very slow trickle (almost comically slow in the case of Ezale.)
ReplyDeleteVery refreshing method in the age of being bombarded with constant mixtapes and loosies every frigging day.
never really understood why you werent into this record, its not mind blowing but its solid imho
ReplyDeletebut then i also like the nef sex rap song
