Mouse On Tha Track - Bag Full Of Money
(From No Commercials mixtape; 2015)

When Mouse goes minimal he really knows how to make a molehill bump like a mountain. Bag Full Of Money here needs a promo featuring Mouse & his daughter Prestyn throwin' shapes like they did in the Get It Back video in front of a green screen juxtaposition of Boosie countin' money pon road and the proto-#problematic Ted Dibiase sketch where he cheats a black kid out of $500. Everybody's got a price BAHAHAHA!

  1. What do you think of the no commercials mixtape generally? On first listen, it's still what I'd expect from Mouse - great production and solid rapping - but some tracks are maybe deviating from the typical baton rouge sound a little.

  2. Mouse really should be more famous than he is, he has so many songs that have "radio hit" written all over them.

  3. Would agree with that, Rym.

Take Me Flying is pure brass band Baton Rouge funk until the corny chorus by the r&b chick. If there's one rapper who doesn't need anyone else doing his hooks, it's Mouse.

  4. i wish the mix and punch of his production now hit much harder, all the drums have the same bounce but its just missing so much now. If he could get a proper mix on his tracks similar to his "no juice" track on Boosies tape I would be into it so much more i think.

If breaking out means moving away from his regionally anchored aesthetic then no thanks. Could he do it on his owns terms or have the odd big song or regularly place beats (or even sell songs) on bigger projects (Boosie or Gates)? I can't see why not... It might be selfish but if Mouse has strong regional support, which I suspect he has, then I'm perfectly happy with him consistently putting out those tapes and being something of a best kept secret. They might be something of a showcase for his talents but I for one would buy his albums so maybe he should try to sell at least one at some point.

  7. Millionaire Dreamzzz and this new one are up on Amazon/iTunes etc.

So are some of the singles from Air Time: Off The Chain and Don't Make 'Em Like Me.

Lord only knows why him + his team didn't make Air Time a retail release too.

  8. Grass Greener is the most quintessentially Mouse song on this new 'tape.

  9. I think Mouse could do some compelling hooks over some other production that isnt his too. Would love to hear him on some Mustard or something.

  10. A few of the tracks on Air Time were Stunt-N-Dozier beats rather than his own, most notably Bye Bitch.

(Stunt-N-Dozier being the Texas producers behind the O.G version of Trae's Swang who now work with BeatKing a lot.)

  11. This and the Foxx tape make up for Boosie's 2015 output being so 'bleh'

  12. All that production is so underwhelming to me.....stunt n dozier suck to be honest.

that dude Blaq n Mild who is producing a bunch of stuff for the new No Limit cats is super hard though.

  13. what about the Bye Bitch production moves you?....its so subpar/basic, their is no real bounce/grove that stands out to the drums, the melody isnt memorable..... ONLY compelling thing about it is Mouse's voice/phrasing. If I was Mouse and i wrote to this beat and wanted to use it, i would step in and touch up the production and then REALLY go in on the mix.

loads of these songs get lost in a SHITTY mix on the production....i dont mind the hood vocal mix that comes out of some of these releases, but if the beat/production is sub par and its mix sucks, i lose interest.

  14. I like the way it goes VROOSH-VROOSH with the twinkling pianos in the background + the exotic melody bits during the hook.

It's a functional beat for sure, but puts me in a relaxed zone.
