Maybe it's the Lakim Shabazz outfit or maybe I just wanna point out that Lil' Pain has no IRL fans
again and
again, but this new Young L single is soundin' like the first good Cloud-Rap song since 2010.
DUNDIDIT makes me feel emotions I didn't know I could possibly experience on a wet thursday morning, though I fear the song may have a short shelf life because I'll never be able to enjoy it again once Paul Lester or Anthony Fantano or Brendan Soderberg inevitably end up comparing it to that My Bloody Valentine album and/or that Tricky album which was utter shit other than the song with the Isaac Hayes sample:
Young L - DUNDIDIT
(From the internet; 2014)
"Maxinquaye" was a good album. The one after it was better tho.
ReplyDeleteyou have dun did it. thank you.
ReplyDeleteAs Lars pointed out that time, mobb (Figaz) muzik production has a lot in common with/influenced all these cloudrap beats to where I wish it was Joe Blow or Murder Gang dude or whoever rapping over em cos theyre often good beats. Beautiful Lou raps ffs.
ReplyDeleteGonna keep repeating it but imagine if Young L gave all this wafty shit hes been making the last few years to actual rappers.
ReplyDeleteWas Die Young the birth of Bay Area Cloud-Rap?
ReplyDeleteRob, there are few genres I dislike quite as much a mumbling whisper-rap stoners from Bristol. Tricky has only ever made one good song and even then it played second fiddle to the Portishead song with the same sample.
Other than Portishead's first 2 albums and Mo' Wax using some of their DJ Shadow profits to licence singles like Carl Craig's Bug In A Bassbin and Money Mark's Hand In Your Head in the UK, Trip-Hop was one of the biggest cultural nadirs of the past 20 years.
Remember the Spin piece about Ryan Hemsworth's live show in NYC? The only people who turned up were various staff from Noisey and Fader lol

ReplyDelete^^^ Rap Game Fiddling While Romo Burns tour.
All I Know is a key one (in my head anyways).
ReplyDeleteAnother lyric mixup too - it was
"turning all the 'jects into condos"
I thought it was
"they turning all the jets into condors"
First L song I've liked since "Young L.E.N"
ReplyDeleteI rate the UNKLE & G Rap song though. I think it's why El-P has such a hard on for him throughout that Def Jux tour film, where he just constantly brings up DJ Shadow to anyone who'll listen. Also features Mr. Lif being himself (useless) and chubby-era Cage talking about giving himself ulcers from mescaline. For those of you who prefer live's unscarred by such experiences.
ReplyDeleteUnpopular opinionz: the Mr Lif & Murs track where they both poke fun at themselves and the cliches of being an indie rapper was a genuine 4.5/5 song.
ReplyDeleteShit. "Murs Is My Manager" was kind of hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAlso, due to Trip-Hop, we were given Kelli Ali (AKA Fang-Face from Sneaker Pimps) doing sleaze-pop w/ Bootsy Collins. Minor victories of the world.
ur forgetting the stuff tricky did with grease
