Is Kitty Pryde the secrete Facebook cabal's viral experiment Rapper?

Ya boy Juelz Rignall right chea is pretty much pilfering the big P with this post. From an interview with PukeBakingSoda's Nicolas Pellion about his role in breaking A$AP Rocky and A$AP Yams' shady Tumblr marketing okie doke. Nothing we don't already know aside from some intimate details about Rocky's marketing campaign which then leads to a very interesting accusation :

MRL : "Do you believe that « Influential blogs » in rap music are necessarily manipulated by Stevielike guys?"

Nicolas : "Sometimes it’s not completely conscious or as well thought out as Stevie did, so I don’t know if we can talk about manipulation, but there are definitely some artists that are being helped by some blogs. It can be explained by friendliness. As artists eventually get closer with bloggers/journalists for instance. There is this one blog of a skating clothing brand, talking a lot about rap music; this is exactly what I’m saying… Rappers they highlight always have a small success thanks to their support… And after chatting here and there, I realised that it’s just a huge friendliness network. Neither the rappers nor the bloggers are completely aware of it.

And there’s also some quite vicious stuff. Here’s a funny one. I’m part of a Facebook group gathering almost all the American bloggers, something like 10 rappers and a bunch of producers… One day we asked ourselves, if we all started to praise somebody at the same time on our different websites, wrapping up the whole thing well, like taking a beat from that well-known producer, a featuring with this hot cat and shit… Would we succeed in making believe he’s dope?

We took someone from the group who didn’t know how to rap, someone ghostwrited his lyrics and we made him rap on some beat from a producer everyone would know… One after the other, every blogger from the group wrote some stuff to explain why it was dope… It worked. But even more than everything we could have imagined. As this artist went highly praised by all the « tastemaker » blogs, for real. We found him in some year-end blog lists from bone-headed hipsters websites nearly interested in rap, some articles saying it was revolutionary, including some big players like Complex, Fader, Spin, Pitchfork… And now… well this artist has a career. Not amongst the rap audience, but amongst kind of retarded hipsters who love to believe that they listen to rap music, it’s a hit. This artist is touring now, hanging around with stars and shit… I think I won’t reveal his identity for now, but someday someone will, for sure.

Anyway, I don’t know if it’s a proof that these kinds of practices do exist, but it’s a proof it definitely works."

Him schmim, Nicolas! Not entirely sure that writing a eye-witness account of Danny Brown getting his dick sucked on stage for Noisey necessarily constitutes her still having "a career" in 2013, but this alleged viral experiment Rapper is so obviously the formerly Walkmaster Flex managed Kitty Pryde who debuted with a song where she rhymed over trendy Cloud-Rap production by Beautiful Lou, innit?

Anyhoo, now that Yams has deleted the RealN*ggaTumblr archives to avoid any further embarrassment of people dredging up his old posts talking shit about Drake, Danny Brown, and Roc Marciano, I think it's safe to put a full stop on the Tumblr-era and conclude that it was the absolute nadir of Rap blogging. Kool Herc cries kidney stones through his eyeballs when he thinks about all the first and second generation Rap bloggers who were narcissistic enough to abandon their original sites for a few cheap likes and reblogs.

  1. Kitty Pryde is not the experiment, because I was in that FB Group for more time than my ego allows me to admit.

I will say this... There are at least three or four rappers that definitely fit this criteria, and it would not surprise me if I discovered they got their verses penned by someone else. Also I did witness Kitty get ghostwritten verses for a novelty single for bloggers affiliated w/ that group, so I can at least admit it wouldn't be astonishing if it were true. Doubtful though.

  2. I'm sticking with Kitty until somebody can give me better options than RiFF RaFF (has a history which predates all), Kreayshawn (was talked into rapping by DB Tha General's manager after shooting videos for him), or Yung Lean (too recent, although possibly another example of a viral experiment).

  4. Wish I had a "mick Anticon connect" too :(.

On the subject of Tumblr-derived Rap, that HBK Gang 'tape is pretty boring. She Ready bodies everything else on there and that's 3 years old now.

  5. Oh, fuck it, I hate 90 percent of those fucking jackals anyway.

Kitty's been rapping for a year or so before the Beautiful Lou collab. And Okay Cupid isn't any different from things she was doing before then (including Justin Bieber, which predates OKC). Chippy Nonstop has no talent, and is actually a former Fader intern.

I covered her before the advent of OKC, because I recognized the destructive power of her subliminal evil and wanted the swift co-sign.

The rappers I would definitely propose are Yung Lean (because it reeks of that team's fake based aesthetic, in addition to Ryan Hemsworth, an obvious member of the cabal, and his constant pushing of Yung Lean) and Antwon. Also possibly Face Vega from Gorgeous Children, but I doubt his fame is notable enough to brag upon in any fashion.

A brief shout out to Walker only becoming interested in Kitty because people in that FB group made her cover Max B's "Quarantine" for their amusement. Whatever he got from Danny Brown's manager buying her contract (if he got anything at all), I should've gotten a cut off that shit. Especially since I was the one to convince her to rap on OKC as well.

On the subject of HBK, they are dead to me until Kool John finally has the guts to do a solo tape without 60+ guest features. Show Banga is the only one who could potentially do anything.

  6. The rapper Nicolas refers to in the interview can't be Yung Lean because he's only been a thing for about 4 months or so. This mystery rapper has been in "year-end blog lists from bone-headed hipsters websites nearly interested in rap".

  7. Ha! I like 2-3 Antwon joints on some amateur hipster rap shit. Those retro house joints are fun even if he's a poor brooklynites ya kid k

  8. How come SpaceGhostPurp guy was in this FB group but "the Kendrick Lamar of rap journalism" David Drake wasn't?

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's early, granted, but I know a lot of non-rap people who are lazy about rap are endlessly fascinated with this eurotrash so it seemed logical.

  11. @Fredo; your boy Drake Dot was actually mentoring the king of the imbeciles. Which, when he realizes who I mean, is going to haunt him more than my Blackland review ever could.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't think Nicolas is talking about Yung Lean, but I agree he might be the latest experiment.

I don't even know who Antwon is.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm told Walkmaster Flex is denying this on Twitter, but he's a guy who pretended not to be Main Attraktionz manager as he posted their music on Tumblr so we obviously can't trust him.

NoTrivia -> that chick Spin who dates one of Das Rapist > that dude from Das Rapist > Kitty Pryde, who is Genesis Porridge's daughter or something.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So apparently it can't be Antwon since his music predates this whole FB group.

Serg Dunn is the only American rap blogger I'm gonna trust from now on.

    ReplyDelete
  17. fuck i'm off the trusted list?

    ReplyDelete
  18. SERG DUNN OR DIE!

Naomi from Fader says that Chippy Nonstop was never a Fader intern.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Chippy was a Street Boner like 2 years before anyone heard of her and shes in with all the same cool people as Kitty. networking politicking

If thats who it is thats a disappointing conclusion, was hoping itd be someone who inspired sincere "changed my life" tumblr posts by respected journalists

  20. people in that group:

    walkmaster flex
kitty pryde (i think the person pellion's talking about. CH is right that she did rap before it's existence, but only some only for fun/notes tumblr type shit and obv wouldn't have gotten any type of success if it wasn't for people telling her what to do and walker becoming her manager)
young lean (another contender, but he's not touring)
    yams
    suicideyear (producer)
    antwon
    ryan hemsworth
    various main attrakionz producers
a few other rappers i can't remember off the top of my head
    noisey bloggers

it's ran by a wannabe yams guy who gained a lotta tumblr followers from making countless lil b gifs in 2010/11 named wavriel. he runs a tumblr called "smackdahoe"

this FB group is called The Wavery and it started off as an innocuous thing made to share and discuss music but then obtained a sort of an agenda when the owner decided he wanted to be friends with rappers and manage them, and would kick everyone out wasn't a musician or blogger (or at least anyone who bad talked his shitty cloud rap producer friends). i wouldn't call it an illuminati type-deal (i doubt most of them are aware of what they are actually apart of) but the group does have a bit of pull on what gets popular on tumblr and probably lesser blog rap sites like noisey. a good example of how it works is when yung gleesh was pushed heavily on tumblr and tweeted about as some lil b influenced street rap thing until it caught the attention of one of the bigger sites that covers rap (david drake on Fader iirc).

oh and that steadybloggin guy has nothing to do with that group lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. So, are they any rap bloggers of note in this group or is it just a bunch of social-climbing Tumblr/Twitter sycophants and their weed carriers from the Noisey rap staff?

I agree that Kitty Pryde is still the most likely candidate for Nicolas' claim. There's a lesson to be learned here : this is what happens when people start co-signing bullshit like Main Attraktionz.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just had confirmation via big Pell Rell himself that the mystery rapper is indeed Kitty Pryde.

    "See, I told y'all..."

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is all very interesting stuff. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

  24. re: bloggers of note -- nawl, more the latter.

  28. Call me Juelz Rignall, but ya boy don't play no games!

My main objection to the idea of this secrete Facebook cartel is that its members are near enough all 4th-tier rap internet personalities with shitty taste in music.

    ReplyDelete
  29. gleesh has a legit jam or three! i def dont get the impression that he thinks his career is some kind of svenghali'd internet joke type shit

    ReplyDelete
  30. At the very least this has explained why a plethora of heterosexual male bloggers wrote such downright embarrassing puff-piece blurbs about that Kitty Pryde song last year.

New rule : from hereon in you're not allowed to write about rap on the internet if you've never read a Will High post.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anon doesn't seem to fully know what they're talking about. For example, Young Lean isn't even in the group and never has been. Kitty has not been in the group for awhile and I think she got kicked out when she started doing interviews where she talked about and alluded to its existence. Also the description of the group leader is way off base and just reads like someone with a personal grudge. My opinion is the group has gotten away from the creator's original vision and has been hijacked by people with more devious intentions and delusions of grandeur. For example now that the bloggers have realized the full scope of their power some seem to be starting their own careers as rappers and producers under different names and are actually succeeding at it.

I did notice a change in the group's tone and apparent agenda the second all of the Noisey writers jumped in, and it hasn't been the same ever since. The group is dead and no one posts now which probably has to do with Pellion's interview and the Internet finding out about it. I assume they went deeper underground and made an even more secret group that I was not included in and where their ongoings can not be tracked. I also have suspicions I was not included in their new, more underground group because I was starting to speak negatively of the direction the group was heading in and wasn't blindly co-signing every shallow act they rallied around. These acts include sad/gimmicky tumblr rappers, post-based/Clams cloud producers, whatever no-personality, Rocky-clone artist Yamborghini Records is pushing at the moment, and the never ending list of up and coming rappers from DC or Chiraq who only rap about guns and lean.

I'm not going to directly name the artists who have benefited from the group and in some cases been entirely fabricated since some of them I actually consider close friends and good people. Also I am honestly worried about what would happen to me and my career in this industry if I named names. I've probably already said too much as it is...I will just say that the guesses I've been reading are pretty spot on and that all of this will come to light eventually. Also what they're doing isn't new, people have been controlling and manipulating what music you listen to for decades. Now its just happening online instead of within a record label's boardroom.

  32. @deep throat aka zach g
as someone who knew the creator of the wavery personally, i can tell you that the anonymous is 100% correct and i know for a fact that you also benefitted for a bit off of the wavery so i'm wondering if there isn't at least SOME bias or ur just misinformed

  35. ^^deep throat is a good troll especially the part of being afraid of getting roughed up by asap bag carriers for having an opinion on music.

but seriusly the reality is that no 1 listens to 99% of the music these dudes make or support and there hasn't been anyone who's really benefited (if you can even call it that) cept kitty pryde and that was for the most part due to her being at the right place at the right time

  37. Clearly Little Pain is a part of all this as well and it makes total sense because his first track was with someone in this so called, "Wavery" ??? No

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, Little Pain is obviously being being pushed by the loyal order of corny rap facebook cabal.

I dunno why so many Noisey ppl are getting upset about the Kitty scandal when most of them are just apple-polishers and bottom-bitches who were only inducted into the cabal recently.

  49. Huge LOLs to whoever posted as "deep throat" and then linked to my wikipedia, then posted as "anon" and claimed it was me posting directly after. I have a fucking rep already you idiots, I don't fucking comment on the internet to convey my opinions of people. I write substantial pieces when I have something worthwhile to say about an issue. And I when I do comment to contribute to a discussion I don't do it like a fuckin anonymous clam bake.

You clowns need to grow up, or at least felate me in person and quit summoning me to display my fatherhood all over the internet. You stay commenting anonymously cause yall are too scared to even own your own childish opinions. Cool.

I was never in the Wavery group, so I don't know how I would know anything about anyone who is actually in it. Pretty sure those fools hate me cause most of the folks who are in definitely act in a particular way towards me, and tend to lean on the same collection of insults.

Plus, if you think I'm gonna misspell the past tense of benefit, which would be benefitted, then you are clearly unaware of my personal proofreading and editing skills. Go read 1,000 of the pieces I've written if you don't believe me. I didn't bother reading past the first paragraph of that shit. It's pretty bad attempt at mimicry if you ask me.

Hello David Drake, I see you have links to some of my videos on youtube. Perhaps you might know where I can find other videos of mine? If not, maybe you can direct me to the nearest Target, or Publix? Thanks in advance for your great contribution to my future.

And if the owner of this blog wants to email me the IP for the person who commented pretending to be me, I'd appreciate it.
