Bigger and deffer

It used to be that rap sequel songs were generally little more than so-so cash-in singles (*1) and half-arsed album fillers, but the official follow-up rap joint has thankfully improved in the years since with the likes of Da Art Of Storytellin' Part 2 and the clandestine part 3 that is Knowing (the overrated Part 4 can slurp on a herpes infected dick, though), It Ain't Part 2, Losing Weight 2 and 'Bout It, 'Bout It Part 3, Box Chevy 3, parts 2 and 3 of The Militia, the video mix of The Hardest, Air Forces 2, Why U Bullshittin' 2 and Still Rather Give U My Bitch, Mr. Flamboyant 2k11, What Your Life Like 2 and Tales Of A Hustler 2, Bank Roll 2 and this spin-off of Webbie & Boosie's classic Do It Big from last year's Trill Fam All Or Nothing compilation, which I'm upping because the original Do It Big has appeared in no less than 3 posts here recently and I don't recall anybody else posting this when it totally rules :

Webbie ft. Lil' Phat & Birdman - Do It Bigger
(From All Or Nothing; 2010)

This really should've featured some sort of Boosie vocals from the vaults, but Webbie pulling the same talking-to-someone-on-the-phone-rapping trick that Biggie used on Warning, my current favourite weedcarrier Lil' Phat continuing to sweep through Trill Entertainment posse cuts as the key supporting performer like he's some sort of John Cazale of Louisiana rap, and the surprise inclusion of Baby will suffice quite nicely instead. If Trill's owners Turk and Mell should happen to stumble upon this post then I'd just like to point out that I'm posting this to promote your shit, so plz don't have me shot in the head like you did to Beelow when you caught him bootlegging Boosie's albums after his rap career had withered.

(*1) : Of course there were glaring exceptions to this rule like Message II (Survival) and Girls Part 2

  1. You did not just put Duck Sick II in the weak sequel category. Theres quotables throughout that shit, the beat....nah son. Even with the played out sample that tune was flames.

Never knew Knowing was part 3. Thats probly my top 3 songs on there, Big Boi shit on everyone else rapping-wise that year imo. Never knew bank Roll was a sequel either, should get that album then eh. Bunch i never heard here nice one.

Bout It and Bank Roll go to the wrong links btw.

  3. I suppose Duck 2 isn't a dud like Jane 2 (or any of the other Janes), but I don't think I've sat through the entire song more than a handful of times since 1992 because it just inspires to go play the original.

    Yeah, listened to that podcast.

  4. Yeah, Scarface's Mind Playing Tricks remake has that effect on me.

The original Pocket Full Of Stones has a similar effect cos I heard the remix first and was so dissapointed it wasnt there when I finally heard the album. Where you rank that song's sequel actually? Im a big fan, thought they switched it up to where its completely different. They hit their production peak on Super Tight too imo.

  5. It's cool. Probably should've included that and Hairy Asshole.

Hate that Scarface version of My Mind's.. with the anaemic replay of the Ike Hayes sample.

  6. Yeah and its on an otherwise classic too. Man that beat is lifeless.

I assume remakes of other peoples shit dont count but Swishas and Erb too. Still Throwed and Front, Back would be the top UGK ones for me aswell.

  7. They don't, but, yeah, UGK had a bunch. Life Is 2009 too.

  8. So the High Fo Xmas EP turns out to be a masterpiece. Might be my favorite NL album. No kidding.

  9. It's definitely the most consistent release of the Richmond era.

Any song which exhibits P's singing skills is automatically 10/10 so Christmas In Da GhettoJacking Fo Da Holidays is pretty much a wet dream come true.
