Re : Lil B's video of the g's worth of Xbox 360 games he's bought

I sorta take back what I said about Jacka's debut now because B jamming it in the background of this video made me realise that I've totally slept on Million Miles due to those tinpot drums in the intro which've always caused me skip it when it's an even better archetype of Jacka's default sound of the future than Die Young is, albeit one that's not quite as good as that cut.

Anyway, I finally checked out the Jacka & 12 Gauge Shotie The Price Of Money album recently and I was wondering what the consensus on it is because it bypassed the forums/blogs I read back when it dropped in 2009, and even Thomas hasn't made any sort of reference to it, and he's to Jacka what David is to Gucci or what Bol is to the Gin Blossoms. 12 Gauge Shotie's claim that "you don't gotta skip a song, boy, all this shit slap" on Dope wouldn't stand up under scrutiny in a court of law, but there's a handful of jams on here which have got me sharpenin' my tooters so I can pardon the snoozers.

The Jacka & 12 Gauge Shotie - Dope (2009)

Jacka and this 12 Gauge fella comparing their white Air Force 1s to bricks of snarf and how they have 21 rounds as well as 21 styles over a modern interpretation of 6 'N The Mornin' with trancey oscillating plink-plonks between the sharp-elbowed synth-stabs derived from the Ice-T classic on Dope here is a particularly effective concoction and I'll take this over the rapping-over-the-instrumental-of-The Smurf by Tyrone Brunson-alongside-Lee Majors-stylings of the Gobots albums as far as Jacka's excursions back to the old skool go. Leave the straight-up beatjacks of mid 80s rap to the more animated youngsters like NhT Boyz and DB Tha General, Shaheed.

  1. price of money is a great album, definitely overlooked. i wish 12 gauge made more music. listen to "dope" in a car with a nice system, that shits tremendo. besides that song, "should i" and "cant be me" are some personal favorites, but all that shit slaps.
and jackas first album is amazing, great husalah verses, and "cuz im the mack" is so sick.

  2. Yeah, Kan't Be Me is definitely another favourite on there. Anything with a menacing tuba in it is a-ok in my book.

  4. What Jacka tune's that on the Lil B vid then? Sounds class.

NhT's 6 in the morning >>>>>>>>> that Dope cover, if only because of the way they say "jyeeeh".

  8. hl the Mob Trial albums all have great songs too imo, despite none being very consistent. The third one with Messy Marv and San Quinns probably my favourite. Drought Season 2 is amazing too but Its a collabo album with Berner, who isnt everyone cup of tea. Same goes for his collabo album with Husalah cos theres this lady rapper called Marvaless on there whos fucking torture.

Iv been meaning to give that album another go but that 12 Guage dude just sounded so out of place next to Jacka to me last time. Yeah Million Miles is great but the verses never really lived up to the hook or the beat imo, same with Love How It Feels, your spot on about it being the closest to his later sound though.

  10. Bozack, I'm not a big fan of it, personally. The Jack Artist is the ideal starting place, imo.

  11. "3 da hard way" with marvaless is a great album, great verses from jacka and husalah. everyone seems to not like that album so much, i dont know why. and marvaless is a great rapper, shes been in the game for a while since the early 90s with c-bo in sacramento. check out her album "ghetto blues".

  12. I like King Of The Block off that album the most because Marvaless isn't on it. Hearing a woman rapping about heroin, being strapped, and stompin' in steel toes is just too weird for me so I just can't get with her.

  13. Dunno man, I've become a lot more open minded in recent times bout women rapping but I just cant get her delivery at all. Shes worse than Lady Herawin from the Juggaknots for dragging down a great song imo.

When I finally figure out how to use Acid and that properly 3 Da Hard Way is probly going to be first on the chopping block.

  17. I never checked out The Price of Money album, maybe because I didn't know who 12 Gauge Shottie was, maybe because the cover is a Price is Right reference and that show is stupid, I don't know...I will have to go change that now.

As far as female rappers, this from RNT made me lol: "ON THAT NOTE I DONT LISTEN TO FEMALE RAP AT ALL I DONT WANNA HEAR A BITCH WITH A FITTED ON TALKING ABOUT MENSTRATION AND SUCKIN DICK THATS JUNGLEGYM HOMO."
