Fly, pelican, fly

Jim Jones, Max B & Mel Matrix - Anniversary
(From DukeDaGod's Dipset: More Than Music Vol. 2 compilation; 2007)

Nowadays Anniversary is my de facto choice for the best ByrdGang song ever. Million Dollar Baby contribution from Max B, Gym Bore Jones in peak sulky-arse tweenager mode, Mel Matrix dependable as ever as the ByrdGang henchman, and soaring production by someone called Bear One of The Control Freaks which sounds like the greatest King Geedorah era MF DOOM beat never made. Prepare for the pop-off, turn your speakers up and let this song blow your bloody top off.

A while back I said I could live without any new Max & French songs. After hearing this snippet, I've changed my mind. Now there's a song which sounds like it needs Pain In Da Ass on the intro doing a Pachanga from Carlito's Way impersonation.

  1. Does “Refreshing” count as a ByrdGang song? If it does that’s my fav

  3. Small elaboration: I slightly prefer the production of Hawaii 5-0 to Anniversary but both are top notch. That Styles P verse is tough as hell and a great start to that song. Jim's verse on Anniversary might be my favorite Jim verse of all time though. In my book, they're very close to each other in terms of quality.

  4. Help me find this one Max B joint, please, I'm at my wits end! 50 Cent and Max talk about it in this interview, around the 4:24 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kfIW7F310w . Of a Dj Whoo Kidd mixtape, Max on a Havoc beat, singing "I told you a thousand times" . He says its a MOB joint. I only remember hearing a version with just him. But its stuck in my head and there's no trace online! "I told you a thousand times/My n*iggas is down to ride/ I cut you from bigger to small..." something... Ring any bells!?

    1. Hmmm. I'm fairly certain it's not on the first M.O.B mixtape. The only Max song I can remember which beatjacked a Havoc beat is Movin' On Out The Door and it's not that.
