LARussell & Lil' Jon - Having Like This
(From Having Like This sngle; 2025)

Lil' Jon beats X NorCal rappers is always the proverbial Good Combination™... well, apart from that one posthumous Mac Dre song which was too XXXtra Jonish for my liking. Anyhoo, props to Jon for getting LARussell to commit to a solo song which lasts longer than 2 minutes. This song sounds like it could have come out at any point between 2002 and 2006 which is exactly what it needs to sound like. The future is the past now!

Unrelated: when's the last time I watched the Clipse's $2 Bill MTV concert from 2002? At a guess it was around 2005 before I accidentally taped over it with an episode of Reno 911. Cot damn, Kelis has never looked fitter than her cameo in that concert. If you don't think Kelis was top 5 dead or alive in this clip then ur probably gay, m8.

  1. One of the things about Bay Area rappers I love is they seem to be one of the few regions with a high percentage of making an actual good cross-regional song.

  2. LaRussell is such a frustrating rapper at times. Releases album after album this year with an onslaught of bad, maybe mediocre songs, has promising songs with only a verse and maybe a hook which sound unfinished but to top it off has some of the best songs out this year with this slap as well as that song he did with Wiz which has become a top 2 song of the year for me (next to Ezale's Hang Wit Them obviously).

But still I check for everything LaRussell releases. Shame on me I guess.

    1. The Wiz song is definitely up there for this year.

    2. I’ve never really attempted to listen to Larusell outside of a couple of songs posted here but what you said is how I feel about Philithy Rich. He drops a single I like every now and then but his albums are always mid.

  3. Ben, that's pretty much 80% of rappers nowadays. Most of them shouldn't be allowed to release more than a handful of singles per year.

    1. Fair enough most rappers now treat music as a hustle.

  4. @Ben or @Mr. Martorialist himself, Philthy Rich never really clicked for me, what's a few good songs of his I could check for?
